Long Run, Sassy in Pink and Recovering Like a Boss…Wknd Recap.

Hola! How was the weekend?
Morning workout – Taught 55 minutes of spin this morning. Felt good to get the legs going after a true blue rest day Sunday. Much, much needed.
We did this song for some speedy accelerations. 20 seconds on, 10 seconds off.
Let’s back it up to Saturday…my weekend started off with a bang. A 19.5 mile bang. Boom pow.
That run started just before 5 AM. Felt good to beat the heat a little bit. I did 4 miles solo, then met up with my running group. They had an 11 mile run on tap. Then I finished off the last 4 miles on my own.
I fueled with these yummy gels. I actually do like these because they’re easy on my tummy but have a nice kick of caffeine. I had 2 gels for the entire run but looking back I probably could have done 3. Still working on the whole fueling thing and what does and doesn’t work for my body. Plenty of water along the way. I love running with my group because they put out water stops every 2 miles or so. It helps.
I also carry this bottle along with me. Hydration to me is one of the most important parts of a long run so I try to make sure that I take little sips along the way.
Felt good to finish strong under a 9 minute pace. What a difference 70 degree weather makes.

After the run which took a little over 3 hours, not going to lie I was pretty shot. I recovered in these pink compression socks.
Went to brunch with mama and had some veggie tamales at my favorite spot.
Did a little bit of shopping at the boutique next door. I love the trinkets in this store…it’s like shopping at a museum. How cute is this sippy cup? So true.
Sunday I did absolutely nothing workout wise. Look at your girl taking rest days, like a boss. My sassy in pink Garmin came in this weekend too. I’m definitely taking it for a spin this week.
Went for Sunday Funday mimosas with this girl. We’ve known each other since we were in middle school. It was fun catching up with her.
We did some shopping after brunch and I found the cutest running skirt at this consignment store. Sassy new skirt to go with my Garmin.
I ended the weekend with an hour long massage. Pretty much the best way to end any weekend.
How was your weekend? Did you get a long run in? How do you like to recover after a long run?

  1. Sounds like your weekend was eventful! No long runs here for me. I was too sore from Thursdays weekend! I like to recover by taking a long shower and playing with my dog.

  2. I did my long run too. If felt good to finish strong for the first time in months. I try to make myself stretch really good and foam roll ASAP after the run. I still think I could always to better at that. I’ve also found a dip in some cold water helps. It doesn’t have to be a frigid ice bath. I try to make it to Barton Springs here in Austin if I can. The water is 68 degrees. But even just a short, cold water bath can do the trick. Sounds like you had a fun filled weekend!

  3. What an amazing LR for you and girl, you are pretty in PINK. Love that running skirt. Good stuff here. And yay on getting the new Garmin in. WOO HOO.

I so wanted a massage this weekend but that did NOT happen. Boo. Maybe the weekend coming up. I’ll try to get one it. 🙂 We’ll see.

  4. “Pink is my signature color.” Remember that line from Julia Robert’s in Steel Magnolias? I think Pink is your signature color. You are too cute with that sippy cup. Sounds like you really worked hard and played hard this weekend.

  5. That’s an awesome run! My training runs are really inching up and I’m thinking that I need to start fueling during them. I ran 13 last night and I am really exhausted today. Maybe it’s the bachelorette party I went to this weekend, but maybe I also drained myself during the run. Love that running skirt!

  6. I’ve never used compression socks and I’m really curious – can you feel a difference? I am training for Hood to Coast in August and because of the layout of the relay, there will be little time for quality stretching and/or rolling. Maybe compression socks would help me out? Yesterday I did a long run in the morning and then did a short run at night. Training with doubles is super important since I’ll be running 3 legs in 36 hours. UGH!! After that I was all about the Epsom salt bath. Ahhh…

  7. That’s AWESOME that you can get through a 19 mile run on only 2-3 gels. I usually have to have a gel every 2-3 miles. I’ve tried that brand of gel before & it’s not my favorite. I really like the Powerbar energy gels. Sounds like you had a great weekend. I did my last tri of the weekend & came in 2nd in my division. There will be a blog post soon. 🙂

  8. Sounds like you had a terrific weekend. I love your Garmin. I just picked up the Polar FT7 and used it for the first time on Saturday. I’m already loving it and just starting to get to know how to use it. Those tamales look delicious, yummy! I went to the beach this Saturday and completed a workout there. Sunday’s workout was at the gym. I’m looking into joining a running club pretty soon to help me stay motivated.

    • Working out at the beach sounds so fab! Oh yeah you will love joining a club! I have to say it’s the best thing I’ve ever done as far as training for any race. The camaraderie of being in a group will really help you stay motivated!!
