12 Miles, Crossfit and Smokin’ Racks…Wknd Recap.

Hey friends! How was your weekend? Hopefully you got to let your hair down and have a little bit of fun. This morning I taught my 5:45 AM spin class. 55 minutes of jumps, speedy intervals and rolling hills. Class was almost full today…Mondays are always hit or miss. But…I la la LOVE teaching to a packed class so early in the dang mornin’.
After cycling, shower and hopping in the car I swung on over to Starbucks. I think I may have found my new favorite drink. Toffee nut Americano…it reminds me of a little taste of fall.
So let’s back track to the weekend. Saturday morning I ran 12 miles with my running group. Um…what should I say about this run…not much to say other than it was hot. Ick. We cooled it down with some icy cold watermelon though.
I stayed about half an hour for the 9AM Crossfit demonstration. They set up stations outside of Luke’s and took us through each one showing us proper form.
Oh and those big ole colorful weights…don’t be fooled…they’re 10 pound rubber bumper plates. Kinda cool though.
Overall I enjoyed trying it out! I think I’d definitely try it again. It was nice to get a little strength training in. I love the concept of jumping from station to station and doing short bursts of intensity.
After the workout I took It easy for the remainder of the day. Met up with my ladies at Blue Fish for sushi, wine and girl talk.
Oh and I got my hair done. I get a keratin treatment on my hair every few months. Very similar to the Brazilian blowout. I love it cuz my hair smells like chocolate.
Sunday I went to church and later met up with my ma and some of her friends at Smokin’ Racks for bbq and birthday fun. My mom’s b-day is actually tomorrow but she wanted to celebrate early. I got her a cake and a special party hat for the occasion.

We ate some delicious cuisine and listened to live music – jazz and blues. This place gets packed on a Sunday night! They also have karaoke and happy hour specials. A few people were celebrating their b-days so they did a big song and dance production. I am definitely bringing friends back to this spot. So up my alley. I even took a little video.
Go mama…it’s ya birthday…..

How was your weekend? Have you ever tried Crossfit?
What kind of food is your state/town known for?
Dallas definitely has great BBQ…and Tex Mex.

  1. Sounds like you had a crazy/busy weekend. But, it sounds fun! Happy birthday to your mom. She looks like a total sweetheart! I’ve never tried crossfit. In a way, I want to, but it also intimidates me. I don’t know if Utah is known for any good food. I know when the Olympic pins came out for the 2002 Olympics, our state pin was Green jello & shredded carrots. That’s a good old standby dish that the Mormon’s use when they take dinner in to others. Lol.

  2. Running 12 miles and having a packed spinning class sounds like a blast! I am a little partial to that icy cold watermelon though! Crossfit looks like so much fun. I did it a lot last year though, so I’m not fooled by the fun looks of it! Those weights get real heavy real fast!

  3. Gosh you and your mom favor so much! Werk that Keratin Treatment honey! I love Blue Fish sushi, I had some Crab Special Rolls this weekend with my bestie.

  4. Long runs, crossfit, sushi, hair did, time with mama… everything in this entry was just the perfect weekend in my eyes!!! So glad you had a great time!!!!

Your hair looks beautiful. Can I ask, how much do you usually spend? My boss’s daughter wants to get hers done before school.

    • My stylist usually charges me around $135 – that includes a trim and maintenance stuff. It’s pricey but so worth it. After the treatment I don’t go back to get my hair done for 4-5 months at a time. It’s so easy to maintain at home as long as you have a good flat iron you can do your own hair and it looks amazing every time. I’ve been getting it done for 3 years now and I feel like my hair has never been healthier.

      • WOW. That’s not bad — Does it take 4-5 hours? Out here, it cost $400-500 to get the keratin treatment and you still have to maintain it also 4-5 months for that amount of money. I’m beginning to wonder if maybe flying out would be cheaper… HAHA. Well, I don’t have that problem but I have friends that have done keratin treatments (or still do) and I know a lot that want to do it but $$$$ is a big problem!!! Your hair looks amazing though. So worth it.

    • Keratin is a protein that’s already in your hair. It’s an all natural straightening treatment. As someone with ethnic hair I love it! I’ve been doing it for over 3 years now. Much prefer it over relaxers that were previously burning and damaging my hair.

  5. You’re mom is lovely. I can see where you get your good looks. Best birthday wishes to her! I would love to try CrossFit. That’s next on my list. Wonderful post.
