Hello and Happy Monday! Hopefully you are wearing your green since today is officially St. Patrick’s Day. I have a feeling I might get pinched this morning because I completely forgot! Oh well. I rolled out of bed this morning to teach my 5:45 am spin class. It’s always hard to get up so early but I love that it forces me to get it done and out of the way. We had fun with lots of hill climbing and sprint work.
This weekend I did a little bit of St. Patty’s Day celebrating. Starting off with the Dash Down Greenville 5K in Dallas!
I couldn’t believe the turnout – over 3,100 people all up and running in their green! I ran into a few of my running buddies – my friend Josh finished the race in around 19 minutes! He’s super speedy.
So I will admit, I did want to beat my time from my last 5K 2 weeks ago. I enjoy running the 5K distance because it forces me to get out of my comfort zone and push the pace just a bit. Then before you know it, it’s over! The course was a little bit hilly but I tried not to let it slow me down too much.
The humidity was thick that morning and it was warmer than expected but I finished strong staying within the 7 minute pace range. I am going to keep chipping away at getting faster at 5Ks. They’re such a great tune up for me.
I finished in 24:39 (7:52 pace) and placed 14th out of 368 girls in my age group so I was a proud mama. Plus I’m the old lady in that group now. Ha. Moving up to the big 3-0 next month.
After the race there was a parade and people out tailgating and day drinking but I opted out. I was tired and kind of still recovering on Saturday from a really late night with a friend drinking on Thursday. On Thursday? Yes, on Thursday. I know…ugh…I’m not as young as I used to be.
Anyway, it stormed and we got rained out from activities so Saturday I took it easy after the race. Which was nice because when the weather cleared I got out on Sunday morning for a 10 mile run. Um, that never happens and I never have enough energy to run long on Sundays. It was slow and easy but nice to get out and just enjoy the morning.
I had to stretch it out so I did some yoga at Karmany to get the kinks out after. If you’re ever in the Dallas area you must go to Amy’s class there. The studio is donation based and she is a life changer.
Then I ended the weekend with frozen yogurt…with rainbow sprinkles. Because why not?
How was your weekend? Did you run a St. Patty’s Day race to celebrate?
