Hello hello! This morning I taught my crazy early bird spin class. Of course I wore my new sweaty band…with martini glasses on it. Hey, if I have to get up at 5 am I’m gonna have to wear something fun for motivation.
Hope you all had a fantastic weekend! I ran the Rock n Roll Dallas half marathon on Sunday. It was a fun run for me mostly because I’ve been racing just about EVERY WEEKEND so far this year. Like a mad woman. I love the race atmosphere though and it keeps me out of trouble. Let’s recap.
Saturday morning I was up early to head to the health and fitness expo to pick up my race packet.
Rock n roll expos are great because they always are stocked with runner swag. Like these colorful headbands. Bands will make me dance – sweaty bands that is. I bought that fun martini headband that was on sale and I skeedaddled on outta there. I managed to leave without spending all of my money thankfully.
I also went to brunch that afternoon with my girl Natalie. Always fun catching up with her. Haha and we took a bunch of pictures as usual. It looks like she may have photobombed my selfie here.
Race morning I lined up to the start in downtown Dallas. It was a nice and chilly 50 something degrees with ten thousand percent humidity and wind. Of course Texas weather would choose to be bipolar on a morning like this. But I lined up to the start feeling cool, calm and collected. Ready to go and push myself a bit.
I started off too fast with all of the energy around me. My first mile was just under 8 minutes so I had to scale it back. The first half of the race was lots of uphills and rolling hills. I played my music out loud on my phone and just had a good time with it. Towards the back half it all starts going downhill which was nice, leading us into the fairgrounds of the State Fair and we end right in the park. I really had no real goals for this one except to finish in under 2 hours feeling good. I think if the race had been flat I may have pushed for a PR but honestly just wanted to finish feeling spunky, healthy and strong. Especially after the back to back marathons I’ve been running as of late (3 26.2s in roughly 2 months).
I finished 1:52 and to be honest can say I am thrilled with that time. I felt strong a majority of the time…a little tired mentally during some parts of the race…but physically strong. It’s the fastest half I have run in a year and one of the fastest times I’ve run on this Rock n Roll course. Still got it, I guess.
Oh and apparently Deena Kastor was there? I had no idea. I was probably at mile 1 when she was halfway done.
How cool is this medal? 5 years running this race…and my 16th half marathon. Dunski.
After the race I ate pizza and drank wine. Basically my go to post race meal. Margherita pizza with fresh basil and tomatoes.
Let’s see…another highlight of the weekend…I found a new apartment to move into in May after living in the same location for 5 years. The new division they are building in this community will be finished in May and it’s actually a brand new apartment right on the water! Can’t wait to show it to you. Like brand spanking new. So excited. Fresh new start.
Also this. Found it in a little boutique. Probably need to read this every morning.
How was your weekend? Do you talk to yourself/have a mantra you tell yourself during races?
