Top 10 Staples.

This morning I kinda rolled out of bed and decided I would get my run on. Just a few miles in the sticky icky Texas summer heat. Still felt pretty good though.


But I have to tell you, I really cannot wait until fall…cooler breeze in the air, pumpkin candles, boots and scarves…bring it on! It really is my favorite time of year.

Switching gears a bit…this lovely lady posted some of her favorite items to stock up on in the kitchen. I figured this would be a great day for me to do so as well! Here are some top ten staples I like to have in heavy rotation during the busy work week. I strongly believe that being prepared and having healthy goodies in the house makes a huge difference.

Here are my favorite things to keep handy:

1. Eggs (Usually I go for the ones from Sprouts/or cage free/organic)
2. Fresh fruits. My favorite combo right now is cut up bananas and strawberries! I love eating this little combo after a morning run.


3. Sweet potatoes
4. Avocados. They have been making a cameo a couple of times a week in my lunchbox. By the way…this without a doubt…so true.

5. Quinoa
6. Asparagus. Love roasting them and having them as a side dish. All you need is a drizzle of olive oil, garlic powder, sea salt and pepper. Roast in the oven for about 15 minutes.

7. Hummus
8. Broccoli
9. Chicken/turkey/salmon

10. Fresh lemon/limes. To squeeze on my salmon, of course!

  1. Oh wow, the avocado saying is sooo true!! You gotta eat them at that perfect time! Also, I have been using lemons and limes like crazy lately. Lemon/lime juice tastes so good in lots of dishes!!   2. i was just telling my mom about that avocados “not yet not yet not yet” thing this wknd — so cute and true. we’ve had such a mild summer (humidity-wise) in NY, so running in the mornings has been lovely — cannot imagine how you do it in Texas!

  3. My big staples are oatmeal, granola, fruits (especially apples, bananas, and blueberries), whole wheat pasta, sweet corn, lettuce, and stuff for pb&j. Could feed myself all week with that stuff.

  4. Right now I’m on a homemade salsa and jalapeño kick, plus tons of zucchini and squash. I don’t know why I’m craving spicy stuff like crazy lately, especially in this icky humidity. Your staples are pretty much mine, too though. Love my avocados. And lots of cilantro and lime! Yum! Yay for morning runs! I’ve been rained out every day this week 😦 but my evening puppy hikes have been fantastic.

  5. Mine’s almost identical apart from the eggs and chicken/turkey/salmon (plant based diet household!). That’s replaced with almond milk, oats, broccoli, kidney beans and peanut butter. Must have peanut butter! Oh and berries. Must have them too!

  6. I love avocados – I’ve started keeping them in my fridge and they last a lot longer (sort of necessary in Kansas because avocados are not cheap here!!!).
