Hi there! Hope you all had a fabulous weekend and are ready to rock this work week. I’m feeling pretty good and it looks like the weather in Texas is too. Hello, we are in the 70s for the next 3 days? I will take it.
This morning I taught a spin class and we rocked out to sprints with this jam at the end. Always a crowd pleaser.
Let’s recap the weekend a bit. So…I was extra spontaneous and heard this crazy race was in town, the Polar Dash. On a whim I decided to rock out and do the Super Yeti challenge! Yes, 3 races back to back in one morning. 15 miles, 1500 meters and a 5K. Yep…I went a little nuts. But it was all in good fun.
First up was the 15 miler! The course took us through 3 loops around the Texas Rangers and Dallas Cowboys stadiums in Arlington, TX. It was nice running a different course too as most of the races around here are held in Dallas. We also got to run through some scenic parks and finished right on the grounds of Six Flags Over Texas.
It got warm towards the end but I still managed to finish with an 8:57 average pace. Not too bad for racing a new distance! New distance = new PR.
I also managed to place 3rd in my age group for this race which I was pretty happy about.
The last 2 races (1500 meters and the 5K) were a blur and were on tired legs. But it was fun to keep going and made for an awesome morning. I also got to meet lots of new runners…the gal below was a pacer and she’s also running the Cowtown Ultra 50K in March! (Like myself) She’s already an awesome ultra runner so I got lots of good tips from her.
At the end I got not 1 but 4 medals!! Yep, I do it all for the bling bling.
After the race I was pretty beat so I took a nap and just rested the legs. Then I went out with my girl Camillia and some friends of ours at Trinity Groves.
Sunday after sleeping in a bit I got up and did a slow and very easy 8 miles out in the park. I couldn’t help but take advantage of the weather…we were in the 60s all weekend long.
Then I had a movie date with mama and we FINALLY saw Wild! It was definitely a great movie. I have not read the book but I really want to…I kind of felt like I could relate to the character and Reese Witherspoon did an amazing job.
I ended the weekend with a little restorative yoga which always puts me in a super mellow state…I can’t even describe to you how much I feel like night and day before and after this class. Always remember to breathe.
How was your weekend? Did you do anything spontaneous or fun?
A POLAR DASH needs to be in temps cooler than 32 degrees…you should visit Michigan right about now ‘
haha the irony, right?! But I’ll take the sunshine over snow any day! Stay warm!!
Wow wow wow!! Tons of running! My head is spinning! You’re awesome- seriously, you’re like a machine!! You hit those miles like they’re nothing!! You’re such an inspiration to me as well as so so sooo many other runners! Thanks for sharing about this cool race! I love it! Sounds like a great adventure! Great weather, too! Have a lovely week! XOXO
It was mostly a mental challenge more than anything else! Great training for my upcoming ultra to just keep going when I was tired. I hope you had a great weekend as well, girl!
So cool that you just randomly decided to run 3 races!! The medal is pretty awesome!
Well like an addict I had the itch so I had to scratch!
So fun, and what a great medal!
Yep 4 medals actually but they all joined to make 1 which was pretty cool.
You have legs of steel! What a weekend of running. It’s been so darn cold here, we haven’t started training for the Bum run yet. I hope we can get out there soon.
Thank you! I am very proud of my steel runner’s legs 🙂 Hope you guys thaw out real soon!
You should be! I’ll just call you Super girl.
Congrats on the PR and the 3rd place finish! Do you get a cool medal or a trophy? How exciting! I’m glad the race went well for you. My weekend was full of spontaneous un-excitement–went home sick from work twice to chill on my couch. Woo. 🙂
Nah just medals. And a fleece & hat! Feel better.
I wanted to stop over on Monday but got sidetracked with the “blizzard” and left for the day. I am in awe of your runs these days. You are freaking amazing and will rock the hell out of the ultra. I’m so excited for you! I, on the other hand, am debating on deferring my marathon in late March. I have not been training consistently with that distance the last month. It’s just been such a tough few months. I am stopping w/ the excuses though. I think I might concentrate on shorter distances and get my speed back.. PR on a half and then save the full for NYC. Everything is just up in the air.
Anyway, love love love that medal. I need to do that race one year. XOXOXO
