Hope you all had a wonderful weekend! Mine was busy but fun as usual. I taught spin this morning and now I’m off to the 9 to 5 with Starbucks in hand and cute boots on my feet.
Let recap the weekend a bit, shall we? Well I’m officially in taper mode as I scale the miles back to get ready for my first ever 50K in less than 2 weeks. So Saturday I mixed it up a little bit and set out to run the Dash for the Beads 5K in HILLY Oak Cliff!! Yep, on Valentine’s Day! I kind of loved that there was a Mardi Gras themed race on this holiday. My neighbor and I signed up for this race a few months back on a Groupon deal so we were decked out in our masks and ready to go. But first…a little yoga stretching.
Honestly my only time goal was to beat my 5K time from when I ran this race last year. This is hands down the hilliest 5K course I’ve ever run, no exaggeration. What’s extremely tricky about it also is that it starts off mostly downhill and then all of a sudden it’s an uphill death march to the end. But since I knew what to expect I just coached myself throughout and kept telling myself not to slow down. Top it off with the fact that it was a pretty warm that day with highs reaching the 80s and it was just a rough morning overall. But…I did it! Beat my time from last year by over a minute too. Good stuff!
I also tacked on a 7 miler after the race for good measure. 7 miles plus a 5K…logged 10 miles total for the day! Fun fun.
After the race we ventured on over to the beautiful Bishop Arts District where we had brunch at Jonathon’s. Super cool place…it’s basically a restaurant in a historic house that has been spruced up and renovated.
I had the eggs benedict and parmesan grits. To die for!
They also have some fantastic cocktails here. You have to try the torched cherry limeade served in a mason jar.
Oh I should also mention I went out Valentine’s Day night…a little champagne and dancing and enjoying life.
Sunday was a pretty chill day. After church I went out to the park to get another longish run in. 2nd to last 10 miler that I’ll do before the training season is over!!
I did my usual restorative yoga at 4:30 then went to Sprouts for a grocery haul. Came out with some yummy stuff and sipped on a coconut water while I did my shopping.
Overall it was quite a lovely weekend! Now a cold front has come though and it’s 30 degrees here with a chance of snow flurries tonight. Thankfully temps will stay above freezing for the most part so it won’t stick.
How was your weekend?
Did you celebrate Valentine’s Day, or Mardi Gras? Or both??
