Hi there! I got in a lovely Thursday 10k this morning. Head in the clouds, feet on the ground. Temps were not too bad…for summer in Texas. I think I can wait just a little bit longer for the triple digit temps.
Today I thought I’d go over a few items that I keep handy when it comes to marathon training in the summer. In no particular order…
–Nike Tempo run shorts. These are my classic go to shorts because they are super lightweight, comfy and definitely keep me cool when things heat up. I definitely recommend hitting up your nearby Nike outlet because they are always on sale & there’s always some new flashy colors.
–Moving Comfort capri bottoms. I love these pink ones, because again they are super light and stretchy. Plus capris are just a nice alternative to shorts in case you have any issues in the summer time with chafing.
–Speaking of chafing! Body glide is great for hitting those spots that cause issues. Rub it on liberally and then go to town. Also I have no shame and have used Vaseline as a substitute many times. I am just saying.
–Feetures socks. I’m always looking for socks that wick moisture and prevent blisters during marathon training in the summer and these are perfect. I would stock up on these and you should be able to find them at any specialty running store.
-If you are searching for a nice alternative to a fuel belt…I recommend a hand held water bottle
…or Camelbak for hydration. I purchased this pink one from REI and I have to say it is great for trail runs.
–Nike tank with built in bra. As far as tees and tanks go, anything lightweight and light colored for me does the trick. Since it is so super hot and humid in Texas I much prefer tank tops…the less clothes the better, honestly.
–Bug spray and sunscreen will also help you go a long way…love anything with a high SPF from Neutrogena. Especially the ones that mist on. Easy to spray on and go.
What are your go to running essentials in the summertime?
