Your girl is back in the running game! It was a 10k kind of Thursday just getting some miles in. I’m so glad my legs are starting to feel normal again after the 50 miler. Today’s run was nice and easy…just enjoying the breeze and good conversation with some members of my running group. But goodness gracious was it HUMID! Mother nature has been giving us lots of rain lately.
So I thought I’d do an ode to the magic of the morning run. I tell you what, I’ve tried lunch time running, sunset runs but there is nothing like some miles for breakfast. Here are a few reasons why I love getting up to workout at the crack of dawn.
1. You get it done and out of the way. No excuses…sure it is hard to get up initially but once you are out of bed you are good to go.
2. Do it for the COFFEE. Because hey, java goes down way better after the morning run is done. Am I right?
3. Peace and quiet and you basically have the roads all to yourself. Gotta love that.
4. Early morning run friends are the best kind of friends to have. They are just as dedicated…I mean just as crazy as you are.
5. Get that metabolism revved up and ready for the day. It’s a great way to kick start not only the day but your body.
6. So your evening is free…you can do as you please…go home and kick back with a glass of wine or get some stuff done without worrying about a looming evening run.
7. For the the early morning endorphins…I don’t know about you but I am a MUCH more cheerful person during the workday if I’ve gotten that run in.
8. It’s your ME TIME…the time you take for yourself to take care of you. Much needed especially when you have a busy schedule and/or career.
9. Because it just feels good to know you got however many miles in before some people have even started their day.
10. To see the sunrise. Oh glorious sunrise…I do love you.
So tell me…why do you love morning runs? Or lunchtime…or evening runs?
Agree with all of your points – I am a morning runner as well and couldn’t do it any other way. It became my way of starting the day and most days I can’t wait to get out, but also am a bit sad, that it will be over soon and the “real life” starts. I guess that’s why I try running longer and longer lol.
haha at ‘real life’…I feel ya! Running is a great way to kick start the day! Keep at it!!
Agreed, I always feel better after a morning run! It just starts the day off the right way. Admittedly I don’t do enough morning runs right now, but when I do, my day is 1000x better!
Absolutely!
Morning runs are definitely my favorite too! I think it leaves me with a runner’s high for the rest of the day so my mood is just that much better all the time 😀 And having emptier roads is a huge plus!!
Woohoo to the runner’s high! That’s my fave!
I love early morning exercise.. runs or bike rides are so much nicer, the air feels cleaner somehow (and I live in the country) it’s nice to spend the day at work with that post exercise weariness in your legs too 🙂
Yep! I love my standing desk at work too because I use it as a stretching device!! haha
That’s interesting. . I’m contemplating getting one, do you find a benefit?
Yes…I personally think it helps me focus more and be more productive. It’s adjustable so I can take breaks when needed. Ask your employer if you work for a company, they got me one free of charge.
So so SOOO true. I will take a morning run over any other time of day! I can’t wait until we are out for summer break and I can get back into my morning runs!
Aw yeah yay for teacher summer breaks!
Love morning runs! Additional plus – only having to shower once that day!
HA! I sometimes end up showering more than once (fitness instructor problems) but yeah…that’s definitely a plus!
I am an evening runner! I get home from work, feed the animals, throw on my running clothes and hit the pavement! For me, it’s how I transition from “work” mode to “home” mode.
I do enjoy a morning workout, though. I go to Camp Gladiator a few mornings a week at 5:30am (!) and it does feel good to get that burn in early. And my running group does its long runs at 6:00am on the weekends. I am not naturally a morning person, but it actually works out okay because it’s like I just go into auto-pilot. I always tell my running friends that it’s a good 3-4 miles before I’m actually awake, so the runs feel shorter than they actually are!
As long as you’re getting it in Rebecca, that’s all that matters! Great work!
When I ran many moons ago, I would meet friends bright and early on a Saturday. Even if it was just a 5k it was such a nice way to start the day. And the sunrises….so perfect!
Sunrises truly are magical! I’m a sunrise…or should I say RUNrise addict 😉
I am trying to become a morning runner and the sunrise is definitely a good motivator. So beautiful!
Sunrises are definitely my favorite!
Evening runner all the way. I am trying to transition to mornings on the weekend. 16-20 miles in CA heat might just knock me flat…but the earliest I’ve gotten out the door on my own is 8:45. So the sun is already up!
Girl yes get with it!! Here in the summer in TX we start at 5 am for long runs 😉 Triple digit temps ain’t nothin to play with!!
I am trying to become a morning runner, so thanks for the motivation! I love the feeling of being out and about before other people when I do go.
It’s a fantastic jump start to the day, for sure!
I am going to try this “morning” thing you speak of…some time soon.
Come on over to the dark side!
Love this list! I agree with all of your points. Feels so great to get runs over with in the morning! It’s tricky to go to bed early, but once you’re on a schedule it’s so much easier. I also feel much less sore and fatigued in the morning! Happy running & Friday!
Its not tricky for me!! I’m an old lady so I LOVE me some sleep! Lol
I agree with you. Its a great way to start the day!
Indeed! So glad we agree 🙂 🙂
I used to be a morning runner, but then I got lazy and it’s lunchtime runs. I need to get back to being a morning runner! Thanks for the reminders!
You’re very welcome!!
ALL OF THESE!!!!! Especially the edorphins and having the evenings reserved for WINE! 🙂
haha. Hope your move went well!
Lovely blog and good inspirations!
