Hey there! I got my Monday started right with 8 chilly miles in the ‘hood. Just part one of my runs today. This was one of the rare days lately that I got to see the sunrise since I usually start at zero dark thirty. Miles are always more fun with good girlfriends and convo.
Let’s backtrack though and recap the weekend a bit, shall we? This weekend was a little bit uneventful but filled with running, rest and friend time. Saturday morning I had to be at the gym J-O-B pretty early for a grand opening celebration so I started my run a little later in the day. I had a 20 miler on tap so I decided to run it at White Rock Lake. I love running here because it is inevitable that I always run into people I know from the DFW running community. It was SUPER chilly even around lunchtime but the sunshine helped to warm things up.
Lunchtime afternoon delight…grilled chicken, black beans & rice with a side of corn soufflé from Pollo Tropical. Freaking deliciousness.
It was mostly cold all weekend (yes, us Texans are wimps in the cold) which made me want to stay in and chill after running. Netflix and chillin’ all weekend long.
Sunday a.m. I went to a trail run that the Dallas Dirt Runners were a part of out at Knob Hills trail in Roanoke. 10 miles done. I also got to test out some fancy new trail shoes since they had a shoe rep on site. Altra Superiors…wow, I am in love. This may be my new go to trail shoe. I am thinking of biting the bullet and making a purchase this week. I will keep you posted!
Overall last week was a good solid week of training. Over 74 weekly miles complete. I’ve had a couple of 80 mile weeks lately too and the body is feeling good! I will be good and ready for some upcoming ultras and races…more on that to come!
How was your weekend? Have you discovered any new routes/trails in your ‘hood lately?
Be sure to write a review on the Altras if you get them! I changed up my 10k route and found so many nice trails/ravines in my neighbourhood that I didn’t know existed! I love when that happens.
Ah nice!! I definitely plan on writing a review! I just got some Adidas trail shoes as well so can’t wait to break ’em in!
Wasn’t it awful having winter for a whole weekend?! LOL My Saturday morning race got canceled and I got scurred that it would be icy at the lake so I skipped running entirely. I did run long on Sunday, though. Some of the bridges at the lake still had tons of ice on them!
I actually enjoy the cold, so to answer your question, NO it was not awful, not at all! haha *evil laughter* Bring on more cold temps!
Nooooo!
*Looks at audience* See what I mean about Texans not liking the cold!??? HAHA. ice ice baby!
Solid mileage, even better that your feeling good through it. I def need to explore some new local running trails.
Thanks! Yes I’m loving being Dora the Explorer lately!
Would love to hear more about the Altras! I won a pair and got the lonepeaks and I like them OK, but am curious about other models
The Superiors are great! Not sure I’d be a total Altra convert but I like their trail models.
oops just saw this, thanks for the info, I agree totally, don’t think I’d wear them on the road, but they’re good for trail. I’ll have to check them out in the future if our trails ever dry out!
Look at that frost! Love the trails.
It was a tad frosty indeed! You wouldn’t believe it but we are back to highs in the 70s today!!! Crazy Texas weather.
Awesome mileage. I keep talking about trails but can’t seem to get out running on them. Part of it’s been work and part of it’s been all the rain we’ve been getting. And the cold, I’m over the cold.
HA! I am missing me some Cali!
I don’t trail run if I can help it. I’m really clumsy and I’d be looking at the ground the entire time as to not face plant. 😛
The good thing about trail running is if you fall (SLOWING DOWN helps) you fall on a softer surface. You can trip and bust your ass on pavement too. But I agree, not everyone’s cuppa tea. 😉
Which is why I find it crazy that your trail runs are so long. 🙂 Fingers crossed that I don’t fall and bust my butt on pavement. 😉 I had a friend who tripped and despite breaking her fall with her hands and not hitting her head, she got a major concussion and is still recuperating after several months. That scares the crap out of me.
Like you I used to be fearful of trails but really you should give them a try. Check out my Trail Running for Dummies (no I am not calling you a dummy) for tips! Bring a friend and enjoy the scenery!! It’s a great way to recover from pavement and easier on your joints. You’re welcome!

Thanks girl!
You’re welcome, that’s what I’m here for!! Happy running!
I miss trail running. I have to live vicariously through you! My trail running buddy is 35 weeks pregnant so no trails for her!!! You are working on some good strong mileage. Love it!!!
Totally wish we could trail run together!
I was supposed to celebrate my birthday with the WDW Half Marathon, but that race was cancelled due to weather!! I did still get to play in the parks and see the fireworks!!
Aw! Well fireworks are fun!! Glad you still got to go play!!
did you get snow up in Dallas? i was in orlando for the crazy weather but ahhh snow!!!
It was more like flurry slush, actually. HA!
