TGIFriday Faves.

Hey there and Happiest of Fridays to ya! I’m so very ready for some Perpetual Motion! Come tomorrow your girl will be running ALL DAY with some ultra action. Can’t wait! Pray that the weather gods are good to us.

Let’s get to my faves from this week!

How to fuel long runs with real food. I am actually a huge fan of this. Some of my favorites are the squeezable packets of applesauce (I am grabbing some today for tomorrow’s ultra), dried apricots and those dang medjool dates. Freaking love those.

Setting boundaries around the holiday hoopla. So important especially during these crazy times we are living in.

5 ‘good mood’ foods that boost serotonin and soothe stress. Salmon and eggs for the win.

All of the Christmas lights along my running routes this week. Love that folks are getting into the spirit down in Texas.

And there you have it! Have a lovely weekend.

Do you have your Christmas décor up yet??

Christmas, Fun, Random Thoughts Thursday, Running

Random Thoughts Thursday.

Hello…it is the Christmas edition of RANDOM THOUGHTS Thursday! This is the day I share my random rants, raves and confessions with you.

Side note. Every time I think of the word “thoughts” I always want to spell it another way.

If you didn’t get the joke, then you just didn’t get it…ha.

Anyway…let’s get to the randomness this week!

If you missed my Weds Spin Playlist this week you may want to grab it for your holiday workouts. It is festive and there are a lot of high energy Christmas tracks on there. Love it.

SOMEONE PLEASE send help. We are in decadent foods overdrive at work this week. I normally stay far away from the breakroom but a coworker makes these from scratch for us, every year. I had one of each. And now I am DONE.

I guess I can say it is fueling the 10+ miles of running I am doing today.

Yep…today is a double run day and I am running the Jingle Bell Run 5k tonight!! I already ran this morning with my run club so it should just be a fun run. I didn’t do this race last year so now I am kind of looking forward to it.

It does seem like this time of year people are MUCH nicer. I’ve encountered a lot of nice people this week for some reason.

Even though people are nicer, I feel like my road rage is even worse right now because everyone is out shopping right after work and it is so much traffic everywhere. I think I’ve been like 5 minutes late to everything this week.

AND…that is why I like morning workouts. Even though I still workout at night. But you know, because I get paid to do it and stuff. Teaching the spin class and such.

Also…the sauna is my HAPPY PLACE right now. There is nothing more satisfying than sitting in a hot sauna after being outside in the cold. Heaven.

What festive things are you doing this week? Anything random to tell the group?

Christmas, Running, Surveys

A Random Christmas Survey.

’Tis the season for a random Christmas survey! I enjoy doing these every year as its a great way to get into the Christmas spirit. And hello, we are a WEEK away! Are you done with your shopping yet?! (I am not. But getting there.) So, let’s get started with the holiday hoopla!

1. What Christmas song from your childhood do you still have memorized?
You can never go wrong with the old Mariah Carey classic “All I Want for Christmas is You”- I never get tired of it.
2. Plane, train or automobile…what is your most memorable trip in one of these?
Going to Hawaii around Christmastime 3 years ago with my mama. We actually went to visit my uncle who I’d never met in person before (!), and my mother hadn’t seen her brother in about 40 years. Crazy, right? He moved to Hawaii for the military when he was young and fell in love and never returned. So it was great to see them bond again. He passed away about a year or so later, so this was a special trip that we will for sure always remember.

3. What is one question you wish people would ask more often?
I wish more people in general would ask questions that are beyond the surface. I don’t think anyone does that enough. Everyone has pretty incredible stories to tell if we all would take the time to get to know people. Just my 2 cents.
4. There are three layers in a cake, which flavors would you pick (they don’t have to taste good together!)?
FUNFETTI, funfetti and more funfetti. With rainbow sprinkles on top.
5. What outdoor winter activity do you love?
Making snow angels.

6. What are three things on your “bucket list?”
Bungee jump, Run a marathon in an exotic location overseas, Do a mountain ultra. The mountain ultra I hope to make happen in 2019.
7. What was your fondest food memory from a holiday celebration?
My decadent (and gluten free) mac and cheese. I think I have perfected the concoction since I put gouda cheese in it now. Life changing.
8. Name one place you could never live because of the winter weather.
Minnesota. Or Ohio.
9. What was the most memorable holiday celebration you had at school?
Wow, making me think too far back…I am 12 YEARS out of college for goodness sake! And yes, that sentence just made me feel old. Ha. Probably my fondest holiday celebration includes any and all events I had with my college girlfriends at Hampton University. We used to have wine and tapas and just be our silly fun selves. I miss these ladies.

10. Which celebrity would you want to have as a friend? What would you buy them for Christmas?
Haha…let’s see…I’m going to go with Drake, who I hear is a white wine lover. According to this article. So wine is the perfect gift for him. Obvi.
11. If you could design your own ugly Christmas sweater, what would it look like?
It would have unicorns and hearts on it. For sure. And all of the pink glitter and girly things in the universe.

12. What is your favorite Christmas cookie?
That’s a tough one. I’m going to go with Peanut Butter. The chewy ones. Oh so good. Sugar cookies are in close second.
13. If you could have super power, what would it be and would you use it for good?
Flying. I would use it for good, absolutely nothing but goodness. Of course.
14. What are your three favorite desserts on the Christmas buffet?
I love all of the dessert questions 🙂 Well, I’d have to go with egg nog (spiked), then anything with chocolate, and ending it with pecan pie. I think pecan pie is more of a Thanksgiving thing but we will make it Christmas too.
15. If you could bring any Disney character to life, who would it be?
Minnie Mouse.
16. Which store would you most want a present from?
Right now I’m loving all of the smell good things. And I love in particular all of the SMELLS of Christmas. I used to get all of the Christmas candles from Bath and Body Works every year. So yes, get me a Bath and Body Works gift card and you will be my favorite person.
17. Describe what family means to you in three words.
Loyal, My Center, and a Comforting Presence.
18. How early do you think you should be allowed to open Christmas presents? Maybe a week in advance. I think one gift needs to be a week out just to get you hype about Christmas. Then the others on Christmas Day.
19. What is your favorite Christmas movie? This answer tends to change from time to time, but it would have to be “Elf”. “Love Actually” is a close 2nd.

20. If you could have one wish granted at Christmas, what would it be?
World peace. And more pink glitter in the world. Actually I saw some confetti on the ground when I ran this morning. So more of that.

And…A BEAUTIFUL SUNRISE to run to every dang day. Preferably with a beach view.

It is that time of year again! You want to buy your favorite runner (Hey, it’s okay if you are your own favorite!! Just saying) a gift and it is super last minute?! I have a few ideas for the most perfect gift for that someone special in your life. Let’s get to it!

-You simply can’t go wrong with runner bras for ladies. My absolute favorite is this lululemon energy bra. For me the price is worth it if it holds “my girls” up well.

Garmin vivosport. I love the sleek design and it’s perfect for getting in some quick miles. On sale on Amazon.

-You’ve gotta love Target’s new line of running leggings from Joy Lab! I think I want them in every color.

-And fellas, I haven’t forgotten about you. Brooks Threshold Pants are on sale, and promise to keep to warm in these frigid months. Get ‘em before they’re gone!

-I’m forever searching for the perfect socks. Currently I’m obsessed with Copper Fit socks. They are so gosh darn comfy!! I just bought these in the store from my local Dick’s Sporting Goods but you should also be able to find them online.

Faves a Day Early.

3 days till Christmas! Can you believe it?! I don’t know about you but this holiday has flown by. I am finally done with Christmas shopping, and I have one more holiday gathering to attend tonight before the long weekend. I am ready for some relaxation, good times (running) with friends and a little wine time!

Since it’s a long weekend let’s get straight to my faves a day early!

Smashrun…it’s basically just a data app that you can sync up with Strava and/or your Garmin that compiles all of your runs in one place. My favorite thing is it tells me what I can eat after a run…both healthy and unhealthy. Like yesterday, I ran enough in the morning to eat an entire roasted chicken apparently. HA.

-Amazing skies this week on all of my runs. Since we aren’t getting any snow for Christmas down in Texas…I’ll take this as the alternative.

Thrive amidst your chaos. I could not agree more.

-Getting some awesome DIVAS ambassador swag in the mail. By the way, if you’re planning on running one of these nationwide races next year (they even have this race near Toronto now! I’m looking at you Char) discount code is CRDIVATX17 at checkout to save. Tiaras, boas, and champagne at the finish line. You’re welcome.

-Pintertest obsessed with this whole outfit. I need to find something like it. Love love.

That’s all for now! Cheers and Merry Christmas!

What are you up to for the holiday? Are you traveling or staycationing it?

Christmas, Running

A Christmas/Winter Holiday Survey.

I got in some quick miles this morning with one of my true blue Irving Running Club friends looking at the Christmas lights. Oh yes, dark and early morning runs are my favorite. I was especially fond of this tree. So much that we actually looped back around so I could get a quick shot of it. So pretty, right? I am slowly but surely getting into the holiday spirit.

Speaking of Christmas and all things festive…I thought we would do a fun survey today. Enjoy! And feel free to copy and share the love.

Does it snow on Christmas where you live?
Not in a while! Us Texans are used to fairly mild winters compared to up north. Anything under about 40 degrees counts as super cold down in Dallas. It was 30 something for this morning’s run and I was in heaven. Cold weather running is where it’s at.

Do you like snow?
Ha…I barely see it! But, I guess it’s okay.

Is winter your favorite season?
I do love running in the cold but my favorite season is fall. I just love the changing leaves, all things pumpkin and all of that jazz.

What is your favorite thing about Christmas?
Christmas music, the lights, putting up my tree. Oh and BOOZY COFFEE. Thanks, Suzy.

What do you want for Christmas?
A shiny brand new GPS running watch (so I can toss out my old one)…preferably one that holds up well on trails and lasts close to 24 hours. I’m getting close to buying a Garmin Fenix. Suggestions, anyone?

Favorite Christmas food?
Not a huge fan of the holiday food…probably something sweet. Like peppermint bark.

How you do decorate and get ready for Christmas?
Pink Christmas tree. Obviously.

Christmas Running, Short Work Week and Wknd Recap.

Well hello there! Your girl is back at it working a bit this week before the New Year. Hey, at least for me it is a rather short work week as I’ll be off starting Wednesday afternoon. Can I get an amen?

It will be a ghost town at the 9 to 5 anyway so hopefully I can get a little work done. And maybe a little dancing at my desk.

Yeah, kinda like that. Except with work clothes on.

Let’s recap a bit of the holiday/Christmas week…shall we?

Christmas eve morning…what a lovely morning it was!! I met up with a bunch of my Plano/Frisco running buddies and we did a run out in the park. We do an annual Christmas Eve run every year and lots of folks come out…some I haven’t seen in months or over a year! It’s always a good time and so fun catching up. Some of us bring Christmas goodies to share to after the run too. We did close to 7 miles that day and it was great fun.

After the run it was mostly chill time for me and I went to my mama’s house out in Plano. She always has the best ornaments. I can’t believe she has kept my 80s ornaments from long long ago!

And she always had the best TBT pictures. This was me and my BFF back in the day just chillin.

Anyway…that night I went to a Christmas eve service with the fam bam. Gotta love singing Silent Night to candlelight.

Christmas morning…brunch and a selfie by the Christmas tree.

Screen Shot 2015-12-28 at 8.28.50 AM

We had an amazing Christmas meal at the Front Room Tavern and of course I had to partake in the spinach eggs benedict. And some yummy prime rib.

Later…Cupcake wine. We tried the new Black Forest decadent red but I was not that much of a fan. I think I was expecting it to be a bit bolder I guess. I like their Red Velvet selection better.

Saturday…12 miles in the hood before the storm came through. I was so thankful to get this run done before that crazy weather we had. If you haven’t been watching the news the DFW area was hit real bad with tornadoes Saturday night and folks lost their lives. The damage is about 20 minutes away from where I live! So NUTS and I feel so fortunate that me and my family are safe.

Post long run fuel as usual…acai bowl with bananas and blueberries.

The rest of the weekend was so chill and I really feel like I needed it. I did my last double digit run before the New Year’s double…10 easy miles to the tune of some wind and rain. I’m so happy the bad weather is gone and now it’s just nice and chilly. My kind of running weather!

How was your Christmas? Was Santa good to you this year?
Yes! I got lots of money to spend at both Starbucks and Lululemon. Hashtag I’m so ‘basic’. Haha.

Jingle Bell Run Recap and a Holiday Spin Playlist.

I did some post Jingle Bell Run miles this morning enjoying an amazing sunrise. Talk about a pretty sky. We had some rain overnight but happy to say the sun is out and ready to play.

Screen Shot 2015-12-23 at 10.22.00 AM

Wednesday 10k done. Yes, I am a sucker for going way over the mile marker.

I don’t know about you but I’m totally in the holiday spirit now. I have a confession to make…I kind of have not been feeling very Christmassy lately. Which is very much not like me. But this race TOTALLY put me in holiday mode!! I absolutely love me some jingle bell running. Now all I have to do is watch the ELF movie and I will be beaming with Christmas cheer.

So the Dallas Jingle Bell 5k run for me is kind of a tradition. I’ve done it a few years in a row now. Thankfully I was able to get a sub for my spin class last night so I headed out to the Hilton Anatole after work, put my race number on and was ready to go.

Screen Shot 2015-12-23 at 10.29.30 AM

There were tons of folks out last night, people brought their families, friends and doggies. I saw a few runners I knew, said hello and we lined up to the start. A THOUSAND or so runners sign up for this race so I tried to get as close to the start line as I could.

We got the ready set go and were off into the dark! And boy was it dark. It took me a minute for my eyes to adjust and make sure I didn’t fall into one of those famous Dallas potholes. The race is mostly flat and goes through part of the design district area of Dallas. I kept a steady pace and honestly just wanted to push myself and run under an 8 minute pace. Mission accomplished. Faster than last year’s time. Placed 5th out of 74 chicks in my age group. Still got it, I guess.

Screen Shot 2015-12-23 at 10.34.34 AM

10 miles total for the day, including the 7 I ran yesterday morning. I’ll take it!

Without further ado let’s get to this week’s spin playlist! I teach my last class of the week tonight. Let’s get to those Christmas jams!

Runtastic and Last Minute Runner’s Stocking Stuffers.

It’s a 7 mile Tuesday around here…the weather was nice and chilly this morning. If I had to describe this morning’s run I would say it was…runtastic. Yes, I made that up.

Tonight I’ll be running the Jingle Bell 5k run out in Dallas! Always a good time. I love me some festive holiday races.

Screen Shot 2015-12-22 at 10.05.42 AM

Speaking of the holiday…I am nowhere near done with my Christmas shopping…I have a bunch of things to get still for the fam. Procrastination central!

If you’re still looking for some last minute stocking stuffers for that runner or fitness fanatic in your life…here are a few things you should look into!

-Sweaty band headbands. I especially love all the glittery shades and patterns. You can find them at running stores worldwide.

Screen Shot 2014-03-24 at 8.08.49 AM

-Salted caramel gu. I am telling you this stuff tastes like actual caramel…it’s perfect for those long runs and refueling out on the road.

Screen Shot 2015-12-22 at 10.09.48 AM

-Experia Thorlo Pad socks. These are seriously the comfiest running socks that I own. They’re excellent for distance running & they have them in some fun colors too.

Screen Shot 2015-12-22 at 10.11.13 AM

-Nuunn electrolyte tablets. They sell them in tubes and have a ton of different flavors. You can purchase these at running stores and I’ve also seen them in drug stores like Walgreens/CVS.

Screen Shot 2015-12-22 at 10.12.15 AM

-iTunes gift card…you can never go wrong with this one…I’m always in search of new jams to fuel my workouts!

3 days til Christmas! Have you finished all of your Christmas shopping and stuffed your stockings?
