Coffee, Random Thoughts Thursday, Running, Ultrarunning

Random Thoughts Thursday.

Today is another random episode of random thoughts Thursday! This is the day where I share all of my random rants and confessions with all of you. Because sometimes I like to be a totally open book. I’m not always like that but I guess this can be a great form of therapy, yes!? So grab a cup of joe and let’s get to it.

-For some reason my alter ego “CC” has made a couple of appearances this week…I’m mostly a happy go lucky person both on the blog and in real life. But- Cranky Chelsea sometimes happens. It is funny though, because most people that I work with say that they’ve never really seen me upset. So, maybe I don’t look as cranky as I really am? Well I guess that is good.

One of my coworkers has finger puppets in her office that she brings out to play whenever things get hectic. I think I need to get me some finger puppets. That could be a fun thing.

I will say that Black Santa always makes me very happy. He is kind of my version of finger puppets.

Do you like smooth jazz? For some reason smooth jazz always makes me feel calm. That and ocean noises.

-I used to go to my dad’s office when he had he practiced medicine in Dallas (he is a retired doctor) and in the waiting room he would always have smooth jazz playing. So I think that is where it comes from.

Also, running calms me down quite a bit. Yes, it is and always will be my therapy.

I’ve signed up for the Hachie 50 miler again next year! This will be the 4th year in a row I’ve run it and my FIFTH 50 mile race! A little humble bragging there. It will always be my favorite ultra.

It has been rolling around in my mind that maybe I’m done with running marathons for a while. Marathons are boring to me right now. Maybe I should just exclusively run ultras. But then I know in the spring I’m going to want to run shorter races again. Shorter races means 26.2 miles. HAHA. I feel like I had this same exact feeling about the marathon distance last year. It comes and goes. But really I simply enjoy ultras more than I do marathons. That fact has never changed. I am an ultrarunner unicorn, what can I say.

-Here is a fun game! Ask me if I feel this way in the month of April of next year. No lie I will email you a Starbucks coffee if you are the first one to ask and my answer changes. Mark my words.

Speaking of java, had a MAPLE CAYENNE latte with almond milk this morning and you guys it was absolutely everything I could have ever asked for. You must check this place out if you are in DFW it is phenomenal. They also have a LAVENDER latte and some other things I plan on trying.

Tell me something random about today!
Coffee lovers, what is your favorite coffee right now?
Usually I would just say an Americano or just plain black coffee but almond milk lattes are taking over.

Coffee Drinkers Unite and Runner’s Home Decor Ideas.

7.1 miles in the hood followed up with some El Salvadorian coffee from one of my favorite places. They have a spiced butter rum brew right now too that is simply fantastic. If you live in the DFW area definitely check this place out. You will love it! Coffee drinkers unite.

Speaking of all things fantastic…I’ve got some runner home décor ideas from around the web that you will love. I am one of those cheesy festive people so whenever I get an opportunity to hang my medals or bibs up somewhere you better believe I’m going to do it. I’ve got runner’s spirit, yes I do.

Runner bookends– I’m digging these as a fun way to organize your book collection. I love the idea of having a little nook in your living room or somewhere for books. All about it.

Decorative signs– These would be fun to put around the house…I think this one would have to be my favorite.

‘Celebrate every mile’ running bib holder. I love the look of the wood and great way to keep track of those race numbers.

-For the holidays! May all your miles be merry. This is going to be my new saying all season long.

Runner’s checklist wine glass. Just perfection. They should have added an ultra check box though. Just saying.

Do you have any running décor at home?

Hello Friday! I don’t know about you but I am ready for a few days off to let my hair down and get my dance on. Kinda like this girl. Friday calls for a dance party for sure.

Let’s just cut straight to the chase with this week’s faves!

-Wearing my Rock n Roll San Diego shirt on the run this week. I think I left my heart in California! Good thing I’ve already signed up for the marathon next year.

Run Your Own Race. Yes. Always this. I can dig it.

-Coffee humor on Pinterest. Why oh why don’t I ever get tired of Pinterest? I’ve been pinning all of the coffee things lately.

-Thursday morning track party. I’m in love with rocking out to songs on my Spotify and doing some speedy strides on the track. I’m going to have to throw in some Yasso 800s soon.

Coldplay’s Hymn for the Weekend. Just cuz it’s super catchy.

What are you up to this weekend? Who is long running it or doing a summertime race?

Long Running It, Dance Like No One’s Watching and Wknd Recap.

Hello and happy Monday to you! Pour yourself a cup of joe and we’ll catch up. Let’s do a quick recap of the weekend.

Mine was filled with some of my favorite things of course…long running it, cheering some of my friends on who were racing, wine tasting and going to a outdoor festival!

Saturday started out pretty early with friends…I got in 8 miles before subbing an 8 AM spin class. I missed my spin peeps since I was in San Diego so it was great to be back in the saddle.

Followed up with brunch and window shopping. This place has the cutest little sayings to put up in your house. One day I will actually have to buy a few.

Saturday night…salsa dancing, people watching and vino with some fun peeps. This event is actually every Saturday til the end of July so we’ll definitely have to go again soon.

Sunday – early 15 miler with my girl Julie before cheering our friends on..they were racing the Wounded Warrior half! It felt good to be back out on the roads again though after last week’s marathon. I have some other races on the horizon so I’d like to keep my mileage up and get some awesome summer runs in.

And a weekend selfie…just because my hair was actually behaving for most of the weekend despite the humidity. Gotta love that.

Have a great week! And let’s all remember to keep Orlando in our prayers during this time.

How was your weekend? Did you get any summer runs in?

Coffee, Fitness, Friday, Fun, Running, TGIFriday Faves

TGIFriday Faves.

HELLO Friday! It’s a good day to let your hair down and celebrate the end of the work week.

This weekend I’ll be running one of my favorite races of the season – the Vineyard Run! It should be a good time galavanting around Grapevine and then hopefully I’ll get to also squeeze in a nice relaxing long run with friends. OH yeah, and I’m also moving (not far, but to a pretty area with beautiful running trails!) in about 3 weeks so it’s definitely high time to finish up packing! I’ll keep you posted on the progress!

Let’s get to this week’s faves!

-A fun time last night at Top Golf with Yelp Dallas. Although, I have to admit I’m not at all good at playing this sport! But it was fun to play along anyway and hang out with my buds watching the sun go down. Yes, being an Elite Yelper has its perks.

Good food, golf, friends, and a pretty sunset.

-Not 1 but 2 awesome runs on my birthday with the IRC crew. Yes, we are getting pretty good at nailing the art of the running shoe pic.

2016-04-26 07.56.17

Don’t shy away from hills. YES…they are definitely speedwork in disguise.

-I think I’m back on my iced coffee kick. I have to say…it goes down so good after these hot and humid early runs.

-This running quote. Love love. I could not have said it better myself.

Have a great weekend!

What are you up to this weekend? When is your birthday? Do you have any vacations planned this summer and/or fall?
So far, San Diego in June and D.C. In October. Gotta love race-cations.

Coffee, Fun, Running, Weekend

Long Running It, Shake Things Up and Wknd Recap.

Happy Monday! Does anybody want a coffee?!? Why yes, of course you do. Let’s have a little coffee and catch up on the weekend, shall we?

This weekend proved to be a good one…we had some excellent weather – perfect for being outdoors, long running it and fun times with friends!

Let’s do a quick recap!

Saturday I met up with some runner friends for some weekend miles in our ‘hood. 14 miles done…I tell you what time literally flies by with this crew. There’s a bunch in this group that will be running the Irving Marathon in a couple of weeks so we are gearing up for race day! I will be an official PACER for the 4:30 group. So excited to get some runners to the finish line.

After the run I went and got my hair colored! I’ve been sort of bored with my dark hair lately so I decided to shake things up a bit. My mom said my new shade looks like SANGRIA (!)…haha…so let’s just call this my sassy sangria hair.

The rest of the weekend was pretty relaxing…I tried a new to me red wine called LOVE NOIR pinot noir…pretty dang delicious. Great date night wine to add to your list.

Sunday funday runday was 10 miles around White Rock Lake with my girl Barbara…we had some girl talk and caught up…and took a few fun pics along the way. I’m loving the wildflowers.

We topped it off with some coffee time after at this local spot. Latte art for the win.

How was your weekend? Did you venture out and try something new?

Brunch, Coffee, Race Recaps, Running, Weekend

Dash Down Greenville, RnR Dallas Half Marathon and Wknd Recap.

Current mood…haha give me ALL of the coffee! Happy Monday. Hope your day is getting off to a great start! This past weekend was pretty fun filled with all of the running and all of the races.

Let’s recap real quick, shall we?

Saturday morning was the Dash Down Greenville 5k race. I love this race and try to run it every year. This time it just so happened that it fell on the same weekend as Rock n Roll Dallas so I figured I’d rock both races. Plus I always love an excuse to wear my snazzy shamrock compression socks. The race started right around 8:30 a.m. & it was super packed. Folks come out, tailgate…blast their music (drink green beer) and cheer you on the whole entire way. Then after there’s a parade and lots of St. Patrick’s Day shenanigans.

I am getting entirely too old for the shenanigans part so I ran a strong race and then called it a day. I was feeling pretty tired that morning and my legs were feeling the 5 spin classes I taught last week along with training so I’m glad I could pull out this strong 5k time despite not doing much tapering. A few seconds faster than my 5k last weekend too so I was happy about that.

2016-03-21 09.08.53

That afternoon I went to the Dallas Convention Center to the Rock n Roll expo to get my bib and running swag.

I ran into some friends, did some impulse shopping and came out with this cute Texas RUN shirt. Right up my alley.

Saturday night…I ventured over to this new Dallas spot for vino before calling it a night. Wine and arugula flatbread with marinated tomatoes…heaven.

Sunday! Half marathon race day. I took the DART rail/train out to downtown with a few of my Irving Running Club buddies. We lined up at the start all ready to go.

Screen Shot 2016-03-21 at 9.13.35 AM

I’ve run this race 6 times so the course is always familiar to me but this year they changed it up and threw in a bunch of elevation changes. I loved the neighborhoods we got to run through, Deep Ellum and my favorite Bishop Arts District. I also always love running on the Margaret Hunt Hill bridge.

The course was challenging but it was nice to change it up a bit after running this race so many times. My main goal was to finish in under 2 hours and I did just that.

13.1 number 28 done! I’m digging the bling. Thank you, RnR.

Afterwards I ran into some more of my old buddies including my girl Ann! We used to run all of the races together back in the day. She is my true blue runner friend.

2016-03-21 09.17.08

I also randomly ran into this awesome gal at the finish…I always love meeting local blogger peeps in person! She rocked this race and had a slammin’ PR!

2016-03-21 08.55.06

Post run eats…waffle benedict with braised short rib from Ida Claire. Holy cannoli talk about the most delicious thing I’ve ever eaten in my life. I must do that again soon.

How was your weekend? Did you run and/or get your brunch on?

Coffee, Recipes, Running

Early Miles in the Darkness and Jerk Sweet Potatoes.

7 miles before 7 a.m. this morning with the help of my good friend Starbucks! Dark roast for the win.

I met up with a few folks from IRC and got it done. I tell you what early miles in the darkness are a lot easier with the help of a group of awesome runners! What a great crew.

Today I’ve got an easy side dish that is quick and easy to whip up! As promised…jerk sweet potatoes. Yep…I kind of made it up but they are so GOOD. I have Sprouts Farmers Market to thank for the spice.

Here’s what you need:

1-2 medium sweet potatoes, sliced into rounds or chopped up
A few dashes of extra virgin olive oil (you can also use coconut oil)
Drizzle of honey
Sprinkle of jerk seasoning (I got mine from the bulk selection at Sprouts)

Preheat your oven to 375. Slice up the sweet potatoes and drizzle oil, then sprinkle on the jerk seasoning. Drizzle the honey on top, then roast in the oven for 30-35 minutes until the potatoes are softened and cooked through.

Done and done! They’re even better as leftovers.

What’s for dinner this week?
Spaghetti squash, chicken, cucumber & tomato salad & of course sweet potatoes! Yum.

18 Miles, Nice Little Coffee Buzz and Wknd Recap.

Happy Monday and MLK day to you! Hopefully some of you are off work today. I am not so I will be the worker bee buzzing around with a nice little coffee buzz today.

My weekend was equal parts fun and relaxing. I started my Saturday out with a long run with the Irving Running Club. 18 miles for the day. This was the longest run I’ve done since the New Year’s Double! It felt good to get a nice strong run in, prepping for my next 50k next month.

Post run eats…an acai bowl from my favorite little juice bar…lately I’ve been throwing some of my Everlast vegan protein in the mix for a nice boost.

The rest of the day was real chill…then I met up with my girl Angela and friends at this new spot, Neighborhood Services in Addison. To me it kind of sounds like a carpet cleaning place, right!? Well it’s a beautiful restaurant with a great bar and some real serious eats.

This girl moved about 5 hours away from me but it was fun having her in town for just a bit.

2016-01-16 23.48.43

Sunday funday runday…10 miles of beautiful runrise. It warmed up a little bit Sunday…nice to see the sunshine. I was glad to get some back to back longer runs in.

Screen Shot 2016-01-18 at 9.09.48 AM

More good eats after running…pizza with spinach, tomatoes and goat cheese. Freaking fantastic.

Followed that up with a little date night watching tv and drinking wine. Smart Cookie…the perfect red blend.
