Pumpkin Spice 15k and Wknd Recap.

Hi there and happy Monday! I don’t know about you but coffee is really hitting the spot this morning. I taught spin and did some strength training like I do every Monday. Hashtag 5 am club.

I am really loving this track for spin…we did a nice big hill climb and some sprint intervals with this one. Good stuff.

Let’s back track to the weekend! Saturday I ran the inaugural Pumpkin Spice 15k out in Ft. Worth. Some of my homegirls joined in and ran the 10k as well.

Since I just ran a marathon a week ago I had no real expectations for this race. I wanted to settle into a good pace and see how far I could push it from there. I do love the 15k distance though because it’s just long enough but you can still work on your speed.

We took off and took a few turns through a really nice neighborhood that had a few hills. The downhills felt absolutely awesome and my legs were feeling surprisingly good. We hit the Trinity Trail and then the race finishes with the 5k and 10k group. Which was a little frustrating because it was a crap TON of walkers blocking the sidewalk. It made it hard to finish at a strong pace too dodging all of the folks walking but I did my best to yell “15k runners on your left”! And kept it pushing. I was fairly satisfied with how I did considering all of that.

I won 3rd place in my age group – not half bad for a no expectations, running for fun kind of race. I got a pie cutter…haha I guess I’ll have to make a pie now so I can use it.

Screen Shot 2015-11-23 at 9.36.32 AM

We got some more sweet swag too…a medal and a mug that changes colors when you put hot stuff in it.

After that it was a whole lot of relaxing with fuzzy slippers on a coffee mug in hand. There may or may not have been a little red wine in that mug. No shame.

Sunday morning was more coffee, church and 11 miles just for fun. Actually I need to ramp my miles back up soon because I signed up for a few races including my 2nd 50k I will run in February.

My new addiction is this acai bowl with strawberries and bananas. I seriously crave it after every workout. It must have magical powers or something.

Then I met up with my homegirl Angela who just got a job promotion and will be leaving Dallas. This girl…we have had so many fun moments, laughs and glasses of wine over the years.

2015-11-23 09.24.44

Bittersweet but sushi always makes it all better.

How was your weekend? Have you ever run a 15k?

What’s your favorite race distance?
Most of you already know my answer to this question…of course it’s the marathon.

12 Miles, Vegas, Brew Junkie and Wknd Recap.

Hi there! It’s definitely a good Monday for some coffee. I taught my 5:30 am cycle class and picked up some heavy weights. I’d say a cup of java is well deserved.

I’m also dancing in the office this morning because I’m off to VEGAS the day after tomorrow. Woot woot…holla at your girl.

I have some friends coming in from the east coast and we have a couple of days of maxin’ and relaxin’ leading up to Sunday’s Rock n Roll full marathon. Love me some girl time.

But let’s talk a little bit about this past weekend! Saturday I was up for a nice taper run…again in the rain but by the end skies were clear and sunny. That’s Texas weather for ya.

I was in love with this fall tree…all the pretty colors.

Screen Shot 2015-11-09 at 7.48.27 AM

Post run yummies…an acai bowl with strawberries and bananas filled to the brim.

Then brunch and boutique shopping with my girl Natalie. Picking out Christmas ornaments.

Screen Shot 2015-11-09 at 7.49.23 AM

This one was my favorite.

2015-11-09 07.53.11

Sunday I taught a spin class and did a shake out run in the morning. Since I’ll be missing out on teaching later this week I thought I’d take one for the team and help out a fellow instructor at the Southlake gym.

Screen Shot 2015-11-09 at 7.44.03 AM

I was not far from downtown Roanoke and have been meaning to check out a new to me local coffee shop! The Brew Junkie. If you’re local you must check it out. Extra hot almond milk latte for the win.

The shop also had a little store inside with cute accessories, dresses and boots. Which reminds me I need to do some more boot shopping.

Oh and I had a Sunday date night…we went to see the new James Bond movie. I’ve actually never seen ANY of them but this one was pretty good…some of the stunts were crazy. Nothing like a good action packed flick.

How was your weekend? Have you seen any good movies lately?

Monster Dash Half Marathon and Wknd Recap.

Well hello there! Hope you had an excellent weekend filled with some Halloween-ish fun. I taught my spin class this morning and then rocked out with some strength work. Today is definitely a good day for Mr. Coffee.

This past weekend I ran the Monster Dash half marathon out in Ft. Worth! It was a fun occasion and everyone went all out with their get up and costumes. Some of these folks I tell ya, I truly have no idea how they ran in those outfits.

Temps were in the 60s and it was pretty humid out…but we had a bit of breeze on our side and some drizzles of rain. A storm came through the night before so part of the Trinity Trail was also a little flooded. But we went out and got it done anyway.

For this race I was determined to fall under 2 hours. After running this hot half and this one not long ago…with both races being well over the 2 hour mark you could say I was out for revenge. I just wanted to run strong and have a good race despite the weather. The course was 2 loops total so it was fun running past so many folks in the back half. The pacers were awesome too and so energetic. Pace wise I held steady the whole way through and only slowed down a bit to jump over (through) dirt and HUGE puddles. The course had a few rolling hills too but was mostly flat.

I squeaked in at 1:53…very much happy with that time. Still got it, I guess.

Screen Shot 2015-11-02 at 8.39.32 AM

4th place in my age group out of 64 girls…not half bad!

25th half marathon done.

Screen Shot 2015-11-02 at 8.42.07 AM

Screen Shot 2015-11-02 at 8.42.00 AM

I really truly enjoy the half distance…it gives me a chance to work on my speed a bit and it’s just enough to allow for a quick recovery time after. It was a nice tune up race for Vegas 26.2 in 2 weeks. Bring on the Strip at Night.

And of course the best thing post race…a blonde cerveza. Again I am not a beer person AT ALL but after a tough race sometimes a little sip does the body good.

One of the best things about this race no doubt was the finisher’s jacket. And yes…any runner’s swag with pockets and zippers is always my favorite.

Post run eats…Greek food for the win. Best thing to dip in hummus hands down to me is sliced cucumbers.

Sunday I went out for another run while thinking about my friends who rocked the NYC Marathon! I said a little prayer for them while the miles went by.

And I followed that up with my first Starbucks holiday red cup of the season. Soy latte with some extra foam.

How was your weekend? Did you participate in any Halloween fun?

17 Miles, Texas Veggie Fair and Wknd Recap.

Happy Monday! Hope your week is getting off to a great start. I taught my cycle and strength class…we rocked it out on the spin bike then did a ton of squats, lunges and deadlifts. I am already sore. Coffee always makes things better.

Screen Shot 2015-10-19 at 8.06.10 AM

How was your weekend? Let’s recap a bit. I was able to get out and explore my surroundings on Saturday. Starting with a 17 mile run by the lake.

Screen Shot 2015-10-19 at 8.13.48 AM

I am ramping those miles back up for marathon number 16…the Rock n Roll Las Vegas Marathon which is a little over 3 weeks away. Bring on the Strip at Night! I have never done this particular race so definitely looking forward to the 26.2 mile joyride. Plus I will be staying for a couple more days so I’m totally making a vacation out of it with my girlfriends. Woot woot.

Screen Shot 2015-10-19 at 8.15.00 AM

Some of these gals will be joining…racecations are always better with runner pals.

Screen Shot 2015-05-28 at 9.46.31 AM

My legs are feeling pretty good after that run surprisingly even after running the super hilly Tyler Rose Marathon just last weekend. I was so happy I was able to recover nicely after that beating of a course.

Screen Shot 2015-10-19 at 8.30.35 AM

After the run was a lot of relaxing and protein pancake making. I used the Everlast Vegan protein powder, egg whites, banana, some leftover multigrain pancake mix I bought from Sprouts Farmers Market and water. They actually turned out really good.

Screen Shot 2015-10-19 at 8.16.52 AM

Later on that day my neighbor and I went to the Texas Veggie Fair! This one goes down every year and I always want to go but end up missing it. So I was excited to make it and do a little shopping.

They had all sorts of booths with live music, yoga, vegan/vegetarian food, jewelry, handmade soaps/lotions and a local kombucha vendor! I was in heaven. I bought a big jug of the cucumber Thai basil drink which was fantastic.

Screen Shot 2015-10-19 at 8.41.21 AM

Sunday was a chill day, 7 quick recovery miles before church.

Then brunch with mama…we tried a new Southern joint in Addison called Ida Claire.

Screen Shot 2015-10-19 at 8.43.17 AM

I tried some of her chicken and waffles that she ordered (amazing) but I ended up getting some gumbo and this granola/honey greek yogurt parfait with fresh pears, pomegranate and berries. Definitely need to re-create this at home.

Screen Shot 2015-10-19 at 8.44.16 AM

Then some grocery shopping later…stocking up on some butternut and spaghetti squash yumminess. I love all of the fall and winter squash varieties…makes me happy. My goal is to try them all.

Did you do anything fun this weekend?

Confession Session, National Coffee Day and Multigrain Pumpkin Pancakes.

Hey there! I got in a nice 10K Tuesday RUNch this afternoon. There were lots of folks out enjoying the gorgeous day.

Afterwards of course I had to grab a dark roast from Zenzero. Love this local coffee shop! I am all about supporting small businesses especially when java is involved. And today is National Coffee Day which makes it even better.

I figured today was a good a day as any to do a quick confession session…it has been a while! You can check out there other sessions here and here.

I confess…

I ate some raw coffee beans as a snack on Friday. Um, has anyone ever done this? I was just curious but I kind of liked them. They were bitter but had a nice crunch. Plus hello, direct caffeine injection.

Today I slept in just a bit. It was oh so necessary. My legs and body are slowly bouncing back from this race. Those crazy hills got me.

I’ve already signed up for the Cowtown 50k in February 2016…it will be my 2nd ultra marathon…super stoked. Bring on the 31 miles.

Screen Shot 2015-09-29 at 3.13.33 PM

I buy GT’s kombucha sometimes solely for the little words of enlightenment on the back. What can I say, I’m a sucker for a good quote.

Rosemary truffle popcorn is kind of the best invention ever created. Thank you, Sunflower Shoppe.

Heather Dubrow is probably my favorite OC housewife of all time. Yes, all things Bravo = my guilty pleasure…most of you already know.

Switching gears a bit I’ve got a tasty pumpkin recipe (as well as others I’ll be sharing later) just for your tastebuds! These multigrain pumpkin pancakes are great for a post run breakfast treat.

Here’s what you’ll need:

-1 1/2 cups multigrain pancake mix (I purchased mine from Sprouts in the bulk section)

-1 egg white

-1 cup of unsweetened coconut almond milk

-1/2 cup of pumpkin puree. This one (again from Sprouts) Is awesome.

Mix and flip on the skillet. Top with a few chocolate chips, favorite syrup and serve! Instant happiness.

What do you have to confess today? Have you made anything with pumpkin yet?

TGIFriday Faves.

Glory to the Lord it is finally Friday! Seriously excited for a work free, stress free 3 day weekend! Long running it, brunching it and playing outside is definitely on the agenda.

Yaaas indeedy. Time to let the hair down and enjoy some Vitamin D. Can I get an amen?

Thank you, Porsha.

I have just a few Friday faves to share with you today! Let’s get to it!

-Have you heard about the Starbucks pumpkin spice latte change up? That is pretty exciting. The drink rolls out next week (although I hear you can get it now if you have the VIP pass– the password is pumpkin…haha spread the word) and I just may have to indulge a bit. To skinny it up a bit usually I will get a black Americano, a couple of pumps of pumpkin, no cream or added sugars. I am telling you, you will love it. It does not need cream or milk or whatever else. Try the same thing with iced coffee. You’re welcome.

Screen Shot 2015-09-04 at 9.15.09 AM

-I like this girl’s running rant. Hashtag true story.

-Not sure why but I’ve been digging this smoked tuna and avocado combination. Sprinkle some tabasco on that bad boy and go to town. La la love me some protein.

-My new running tank from Etsy. We all have our mantras and this one is one of my favorites. Sometimes you need a boost.

No bake pumpkin protein bites. Want. I am probably making them this weekend. And adding chocolate chips.

Scientists may have pinpointed the reason for the ‘Runner’s High’. Can we please bottle up this phenomenon and sell it? We would be millionaires. Happy endorphin filled millionaires.

That’s all for this week! Til next time and enjoy the holiday!

What are you up to this weekend? Anyone traveling or going on a fun excursion?

TGIFriday Faves.

Happy Friday! Today is without a doubt a good day to sip on a little coffee and knock out some work before the weekend! I am ready to let my hair down.

I have a few favorites from this week so thought I would share! It has been super hot down in Texas (yesterday the high was 104!) so I’ve just been trying to stay cool and get out early for some sunrise running. Here are a few ways this week that I have beat the heat!

-Enjoying the flowers on yesterdays run while the sun came up. Gorgeous as usual.

-Sipping margaritas in downtown Fort Worth with someone special! Gotta love those Yelp events.

-Oh yeah…and enjoying some shrimp and tilapia ceviche at this place. So freaking delicious.

-Grubbing on watermelon while working at my desk. YUM…it is so juicy this time of year. I think I may have to have some more at lunch today.

-More favorites…12 things you don’t expect to love when you start running. Yes to all of it.

-and this sign…it truly makes me smile.

What’s on tap for your weekend? How have you been cooling off and beating the summer heat?

15 Miles, Triple Digits and Wknd Recap.

Happy Monday! I am sitting here sipping on some Starbucks cold brew. It’s their new iced coffee if you have not tried it. Plus it’s super strong! Cheers.

I taught my cycle and strength class this a.m. to get the work week started. Muscles are definitely feeling it now! I guess that is a good thing.

How was your weekend? Hopefully you got to relax or do something fun. Friday night I had a little dinner date night then we watched the sunset on the balcony. Perfect way to end a busy day.

Saturday was long run day! I have been ramping up my 26.2 training…Tyler Rose in October then Rock n Roll Las Vegas in November. 15 miles on deck. Training is coming along quite nicely so far.

This was a good run and my legs were feeling strong despite how so flipping hot it was. We had our first triple digit weekend so it was the warmest day of the year. I got up early to beat the heat.

Afterwards I enjoyed a bit of pool time…I found a nice shady spot where not a lot of folks were. This pool is closest to my apartment and it’s fairly new so me & my neighbor felt all VIP.

Screen Shot 2015-07-20 at 8.43.41 AM

Up bright and early again the next morning…only 7 miles this time with a few strides to spice things up.

I was starved after that so I treated mama to a movie date then brunch at La Comida. She has been working hard and is taking her test very soon to get her real estate license! Loved the restaurant too…there was pretty artwork on the walls and I made friends with the pink flamingo out front.

How was your weekend? Did you have fun in the great outdoors?

TGIFriday Faves.

Oh thank heaven for Friday, good music and 7-eleven coffee!! I hope you all have a great weekend in store.

Yep, guilty as charged. You have to admit coffee in an IV would be fantastic, though.

Let’s cut straight to the chase with this week’s favorites!

Off the shoulder chambray…and pretty much anything this girl wears, ever. Super sassy and fun for summer.

-Janelle Monae’s song “Yoga”. And hello, this video is so hot. We must learn all of the dance moves.

-I am on a lettuce wrap kick lately thanks to my girl Maddie…these turkey taco wraps were perfection with some avocado and crumbled goat cheese.

Summer porch drink? Holy deliciousness. I need this in my hand now for a poolside treat.

-This scent…Endless Weekend from Bath & Body Works. Truly makes me want to have another long weekend…STAT.

Screen Shot 2015-07-17 at 8.12.39 AM

-Coconut oil and not to cook with. Although it’s pretty good for that too. But it feels amazing when you put it on your skin! Try it. I like the one from Trader Joe’s.

-Cooling off this week at some Yelp events (add me if you’re on there!!) this one was at Bravo Cucina Italiana. Beautiful place. Just kickin it with my girl Kendall.

-These Sweatpants and Coffee posts…if you are a coffee lover you must follow her on Instagram. Hilarious.

Screen Shot 2015-07-17 at 8.17.17 AM

-Anything Real Housewives of Orange County related. I have to say my favorite character right now is Heather Dubrow. Just because she is so fancy.

-Signing up for this race next month. Feeling hothothot!! Can’t wait to run 13.1 in the straight up SUN.

Screen Shot 2015-07-17 at 8.22.19 AM

That’s all for now! Have a great weekend!

What are you up to this weekend? Does anyone have a rockstar summer race?

TGIFriday Faves.

Hi there! Hope you all are having a fabulous Friday. I’m sitting at my desk sipping coffee…oh yes, liquid joy juice. I sure do love you.

Screen Shot 2015-07-10 at 9.38.50 AM

Let’s get to this week’s faves!

30 hashtags every 30 something actually needs. Freaking hilarious.

Summertime quinoa with greens…this girl is always whipping up some awesome colorful healthy eats.

-My new favorite place…Tea 2 Go. Spicy chai tea on ice with almond milk for the win.

4 fixes to improve your running mechanics. Hey, every little bit helps.

25 crazy fun marathons that are actually worth training for. And yes, you know number 4 is definitely on my list.

Have a great weekend! See you on the flip side.

What are you up to this weekend? Do you have any crazy fun marathons on your bucket list?
