A Fun Evening with the Dallas Fitness Ambassadors and CorePower Yoga.

As a distance runner I always feel like I could do more yoga. It truly makes me feel restored and re-energized! So I jumped at the opportunity to attend a sunset yoga session with CorePower Yoga and my fellow Dallas Fitness Ambassadors.

I was chosen as a Dallas Fitness Ambassador not too long ago and I am so excited to link up with this group to check out new workouts in the DFW area. I will be posting more about the workouts that I attend and new fitness studios popping up all over the metroplex. So definitely stay tuned for more of these posts!

I have attended CorePower before (check out my review here) and have taken a few different types of classes at their studio. This particular class was held outdoors at the beautiful CenterPark Garden at Northpark Mall! It was a perfect evening for getting your strech on outside. Nice and cool but not too chilly with a sweet sunset and colorful flowers in the background.

Green House Market was there also sampling some of their sweet treats. I loved the little date bites with berries on top as well as the chia seed pudding. Total yum and all natural.

They had a live DJ and an instructor to lead as through the vinyasa flow. I had run just over 12 miles yesterday so I totally needed this stretch! Warrior 2 is my jam.

I love also the concept of doing yoga outside. For me it really helps me to zen out and really get into the practice. Plus the soft surface on the grass was so cozy. Way better than doing yoga on a hard floor or pavement.

After the session DryBar and MiniLuxe had stations for manis and braiding hair etc. They also had a juice bar! ‘We’ve Got the Beet’ – I simply adore beets in juice form. I honestly am not sure why.

Overall it was such a wonderful night of yoga and networking with my ambassador friends. I am thrilled to be plugged in with these amazing folks who are also bloggers like myself and in love with health and fitness! Plus, I can now try new workouts and share them with you so you can get the exclusive skinny on the hottest and latest in fitness.

Hey, it also is nice now not to be the only person constantly taking photos at events. Because all of my blogger buds are photo happy! I love it.

Check out CorePower Yoga to see if there’s a studio near you and if you are in the Dallas area, hit up Green House Market for some healthy eats and treats.

When is the last time you got your yoga on? What’s your favorite type of yoga?
Definitely vinyasa/power flow!

Tell me something random about your day today!!
Awesome sunrise run this morning. Also dancing in the office while knocking out work is where it’s at.

Weekly Running Report.

Hope your week is off to a great start! I am back from the weekend and ready to recap some of last week’s mileage with you. I managed to squeeze in over 75 miles of running last week!! So let’s get right into it!

Monday AM- 8.02 lunchtime miles. The weather has been kind of off and on lately (ahh yes, love Texas this time of year) but I managed some lovely solo miles at a 8:47 pace. Legs actually felt pretty good on this day.

Monday PM- Very quick warm up before teaching a class at the gym – 2.22 miles, 8:16 pace. Over 10.2 miles total for the day.

Tuesday AM- 10.02 easy miles after a rain storm. Nice early start before the busy work day. Usually I end up having 2.5 cups of coffee on days like this. I need coffee in a IV.

Now you know my secret.

Tuesday PM- 3.02 evening miles. Just gathering my thoughts- stretching out the legs, and getting them loose from the 9 to 5.

Wednesday AM- 8.08 miles in the morning with my neighbor. The sunrise was kind of ridiculous that day. In a good kind of way.

Wednesday PM- 4.12 miles after work before some happy hour fun. Yeah, clearly you see a double run day pattern going on here. Just call me butter because I am on a roll.

Thursday AM- 10.11 very sleepy miles with IRC, did most of my mileage with them and a few more on my own. Yes, we do love our shoe pics.

Thursday PM- 3.02 miles, 8:33 pace. Warming up the legs before gym.

Friday- REST DAY

Saturday- 15.15 conversational miles with Tracy. It was humid and cloudy outside with a little breeze which helped. We are both gearing up for a few races. She’s a former college cross country athlete so I love running with her. She enjoys running with me because I love to go long and I love to run with her because she’s amazing at racing. We are running sole mates indeed.

Sunday- 12.02 trail miles on tough terrain with my trail running friends. The Ragnar relay people were there to chat about upcoming races, giving out freebies and such.

Love navigating the rocks and roots. To be honest since my 100 miler I’ve really missed being back out on the trails so I’m going to have to find another trail ultra soon. I’ve got my eye on a few things before the end of the year including a 100k in November (62 miles).

I am loving my Brooks PureGrit 5’s by the way. It took a minute to break them in but they are perfect for a rocky trail.

And there you have it!

How was your weekend? Did you do any St. Patty’s Day celebrating?
Yes, accompanied by a few mimosas with friends on Saturday.

5 Reasons Why Running is the Cure as Told by Legally Blonde.

1. It can give you the best energizing mental boost…to get through that project at work or presentation. Sometimes you just need a clear mind to get through the work day. Running can do just that.

2. Some days you are just in a MOOD…you feel me? Running can totally turn a day around and make a bad day better.

3. It can give you an opportunity to get out with your running buds and vent about life while getting some miles in together. Like doing some girl talk and such. Hey…girls…we talk about just about everything.

4. It can get your through a funk or situation where you want to be lazy in bed and eat bon bons all day. Which, sometimes can be therapeutic. But some days you just need to get your ass up, get out of that funk and get going.

5. Because exercise gives you endorphins! Let’s just bottle those babies up and market them, shall we?

What are some reasons why you keep running?

Weds Spin Playlist.

What songs are you grooving to lately? Are you on Spotify?
Let’s be friends if we aren’t already!

Mother Nature Was Showing Off and Ultrarunner Staples.

Hey there! My morning started out a bit rainy and stormy but it quickly cleared and gave way to absolutely beautiful sunshine. Mother nature was just showing off today! 10.02 miles done.

So here are a few foods I absolutely love and think are great ultrarunner staples! When I was training for my 100 miler I made sure to include many of these in my diet! So if you are contemplating running an ultra (and staying healthy while doing it), take notes.

Avocados/nuts/etc. Healthy fats are the way to go. I love almonds (and almond milk!!), pistachios and generally could just eat avocados straight. Sprinkle a little sea salt/lime on there and boy you are good to go.

Lean protein. Grilled chicken, turkey, tuna, salmon etc are generally my go tos. They just keep me satisfied and full. Generally dinner will be chicken with a veggie and a complex carb.

Leafy greens- Spinach and kale are my two faves. Typically I’ll throw ‘em in a smoothie or will have a huge salad for lunch with cherry tomatoes and raw broccoli thrown in.

Greek yogurt. Typically I go for the nonfat kind and will throw on a bunch of fruit/maybe a few nuts or some granola. I love having this especially after a run. For some reason I crave things like yogurt/acai bowls and cold things post workout.

Sweet potatoes and butternut squash. I love everything spiralized and having these handy really helped me to not go crazy on the pasta and white refined carbs. I will throw on on some ground turkey and avocado, maybe some goat cheese and go to town.

Kombucha- I think it’s something about the probiotics I’m really digging with kombucha. As you know probiotics are fantastic for your digestive system. Plus it just gives me a ton of energy and makes me feel good. I drink kombucha probably twice a week…it can be pricey!

What are some of your go to runner superfoods?

TGIFriday Faves.

Well, we did it…we made it through the work week. Happiest of Fridays to you! Hope you have some fun and relaxation in store, ladies!! (and gents! No I’m not leaving my men out. I know I have some male readers! Ha.)

Let’s get to this week’s faves!

-Hello beautiful bluebonnets. Yes, there was a Texas bluebonnet sighting on my run yesterday afternoon. It was so marvelous. This time of year our state flower starts popping up everywhere and it makes my soul happy. It’s the most wonderful time of the year.

20170302_182421

-All of the amazing sunrises (and sunsets) by the water this week. I just wanna play outside in the sunshine all day.

20170301_074045

-Seeing my monthly mileage progress over the last few months. It has literally taken me years to get to this point, ya’ll. Started from the bottom now we’re here. Thank you, strong legs for getting me through.

photogrid_1488489076223

-Getting excited about fun girls trips I have coming soon. Galveston for a half marathon on the beach in April and we have already rented a condo. Then the Rock n Roll San Diego marathon with my runner girls in June. California always has a place in my heart and I’m ready to get back to run in SoCal! Bring it on.

20170227_174332

-And I’m going to end with a quote I am loving this week…so relevant to life! Love it love it. Thanks Goldfish Kiss.

Have a beautiful weekend!

What are you up to this weekend?
Running (of course), yoga (YES!!) and lots of relaxing in the sun.

Weekly Running Report.

Hello there! I am back from a long weekend. I didn’t even get to post my TGIFriday Faves (I know, who am I?) on Friday but I promise I’ll make it up to you this week. I have missed ya’ll!

20170227_101331

That pic was from happy hour last week with my fellow Dallas Fitness Ambassadors. FUN group indeed!

So, let’s recap last week’s mileage, shall we? I got in 70.3 miles last week and have lived to tell you about it. Ha, that’s actually kind of a typical week for me lately, but I’m slowly building back up from my crazy 100 mile race not long ago. I’ve got a few races on tap for spring and summer (including a fun marathon girls trip to San Diego!) so should be a good time.

Monday lunch miles- 7.21 miles at an 8:40 pace for lunch. I love doing my lunch time runs because the gym that I work at is literally next door, so I can shower and go back to my 9-5. Which is also real close by. Hey! It’s a win win situation. Talk about convenience.

Monday PM- Quick 3.02 miles, 8:35 pace. Warming up before teaching a class after work.

Tuesday AM- 8.22 miles…catching up with some Irving Running Club peeps I hadn’t seen in a while. Good times. We love our shoe pics.

20170223_053628

Tuesday PM- Warming up before teaching a class again. Kind of slow-ish easy 3.02 miles, 9:23 pace. Legs felt tired.

Wednesday AM- 10.11 miles around the lake in the morning, 8:58 pace. Ran with my neighbor for 7 and then finished the rest on my own.

Thursday AM- 7.12 Irving Running Club miles. I kind of love that we meet at the coffee shop because I run up until the shop opens. Caffeine and running, match made in heaven.

Thursday PM- 4.11 miles after work, took a half day to drive to Houston to see about family matters. I literally need some run time before being in the car with my mother for a long period of time. I love her, but you feel me.

Friday & Saturday- Road tripping and REST. I had some wonderful meals fueling for Sunday’s marathon though. Thank you FitFuel in Houston. Hello, grass fed sirloin with egg whites and sweet potatoes. Good gracious that was delicious.

20170225_092909

Sunday- Paced the Cowtown Marathon. And then ran a mile and some change back to my car! HA. Anyway, most of you know I paced 4:30 last year at the Irving Marathon. I actually LOVE being a pacer! Helping others reach their goals through running is a wonderful thing. It’s my little way of giving back to the community.

How was your weekend? What did you do?

4 Reasons to Run When You’re Just Not Feeling It.

So let’s keep it real…some days are just days when you’d rather curl up on your couch (or stay in your warm bed) than get up and hit the ground running. But we all know those days don’t make champions…am I right? So here are 4 reasons to run when you have a case of the IDGAFs.

20170221_075258

1. More than likely you will feel better once you get out there. Whether it’s short or long, you are never going to regret putting in those miles. Some days I tell myself that I am just going to go out for 3 and 4 miles and usually after that my body is all warmed up and I’ll want to do just a little bit more. It’s all about putting one foot in front of the other.

2. Because somewhere out there, someone busier than you is out running. Whether it is a high powered business man at 4:30 in the morning before a big meeting or a busy mama running around with children in tow. If they can do it, you certainly can get your ass up and hop to it.

9b813e4823be6ebe33417c4728b5aeba

3. To get a jolt of feel good endorphins. My favorite drug.

4. To remember why you started this journey of running in the first place. Which reminds me of one of my favorite quotes. “Run often and run long, but never outrun your joy of running”.

What are some reasons you are going to get out and get your RUN on today?

Weekly Running Report.

Well hello there! I am bringing back the weekly running report!! 65.2 miles of running last week. I am slowly but surely gearing back up for some spring races. Let’s recap things a bit from last week.

screen-shot-2017-02-20-at-8-55-04-am

Monday AM- 7.11 super early miles with my new running buddy/neighbor friend. He has the cutest runner dog too that likes to run with us. We caught up on life and got some miles in before starting the work day.

Monday PM- 4.03 afternoon/lunch time miles, 8:49 pace. Enjoying the clouds and cool breeze. I always seem to pick up the pace a bit in the afternoons! Probably because I’m finally wide awake.

Tuesday AM- 4.15 miles solo in the morning in basically a rain storm. No lightning but the rain was coming down pretty hard there for a minute! It was a tad chilly too. I have to say I’m more than ready for spring time sunshine type weather. I do like the cold usually but I’m just over it now for some reason.

Tuesday PM- 4.21 miles at lunch, 8:37 pace. The skies had cleared and I was feeling pretty good! It feels good to get back to pushing the pace a bit after my 100 mile race not too long ago. Finally the legs are getting back to normal.

Wednesday- 10.02 mile RUNch. Solo miles and sunshine. I was having a little too much fun rocking out to my music.

Thursday AM- 8.02 miles after taking an early spin class. It was FREEZING that morning, temps in the 30s. I did not bring my gloves either because I didn’t realize it was going to be that cold. Ran with the sunrise so I started feeling a little better once the sun came out.

Thursday PM- 4.11 sunset miles, 8:39 pace. I am convinced that colorful leggings make you run a little faster. Just saying.

20170216_175046

Friday- REST DAY

Saturday- 15.02 miles with Tracy, lots of girl talk and happy miles. The best combination.

Sunday- 8.51 miles after going out on Saturday night for sushi and wine with the girls. Super slow and easy recovery miles jamming out to songs on my Spotify.
