Random Thoughts Thursday.

Hello! Again this week is just insanity and I am ready for it to be over. I need my sunshine and my relax time. Just keeping it all the way real. Thank goodness I am counting down the days till my RACE-cation. Anyways. Let’s get to the random thoughts this week, shall we?

Did you all see this video of Ray J and every few seconds he moves his hat around and they keep cutting the camera back to his hat being a different place on his head? I swear I was cracking up at this yesterday. I love the internet. Needed that laugh.

Also, this. Because it is oh so true (see video above)

Apparently there are RUNNERS that run with donkeys and it is basically a race, in Colorado? Have you heard of this?! My running buddy does these races all of the time. Yes, it is actually a thing. Mind blowing.

We have a NEW speaker system in my cycle class! We had to fight so hard to get it and now finally the day has come! I am very excited to teach tonight. Those of you who have been keeping up know how frustrated I’ve been.

I have literally been so busy this week work wise that yesterday I just came home and straight passed out. I did an evening run (getting in my double run day), came home and showered, and laid down and did not wake up till this morning. No real dinner or anything. Some days sleep wins over a big meal. This is why I need a maid or a butler or accountability coach of some sort to remind me to eat.

I know…but a girl can dream…

Since this week has been so packed with work I truly need friend time. This weekend that will be happening.

Tell me some of your random thoughts this week!

Random Thoughts Thursday.

Hi there! Welcome to the randomness that is random thoughts Thursday. Let’s get straight to it with the (running and non running related) rants and raves this week…just cuz we can and it’s fun.

It truly feels like THROWBACK Thursday today. As I type I’m listening to “Ghetto Superstar” on my Spotify. Anyone remember that song? Whatever happened to my girl Mya?? I so had a girl crush on her back in the day. Loved all of her songs for sure.

That fact makes me one to kind of create a #TBT playlist on the spot for teaching tonight’s spin class. Sometimes I will throw a bunch of random songs on there from the 90’s. My Irving classes love the throwback hits.

Speaking of spin class…we are dealing with more technical difficulties…YET AGAIN. Yeah, remember when I told you about the stereo issues we were having? Well they are back again. Tonight they are providing us with a portable speaker though while they make the stereo replacement. Good thing because I’m literally about to go AWF the next time this happens. I ain’t a killa, but don’t push me. Yep I’m all gangster like that.

Which brings me to people just saying whatever they want all up in the comments on Instagram…y’all I have no shame at all. I will block you so fast you will not see it coming. I love you but I know how to use the block button. So, be nice. Thanks much. Love you mean it.

I went out last night and may or may not have stayed out a little bit past my bedtime but had the BEST conversation with the most awesome friends over delicious sushi. It was kind of the best thing ever. You know I usually go to bed early. But, YOLO.

What do you think about Cardi B naming her kid, Kulture? I think it’s kind of a cute name. I mean, you’ve gotta love Cardi B right. It’s like she is so darn cute you can do no wrong. This baby pic of her makes me smile, every time.

What is on your mind this week?? Come at me with the randomness!!

Mystery Blogger Award.

Okay, y’all…(and yes I said y’all – I’m a Texan! Get used to it) it has been a HOT MINUTE since I’ve done one of these survey type of posts. You know, the ones back in the day we used to do all the time? Blogger awards. Yes, love ‘em! Anyway, one of my favorite bloggers right now, Charlene, nominated me for the “mystery blogger award”! Thanks lady!!! So those of you that are new here, it will give us an opportunity to get to know one another, a little better! So…let’s get right to the questions! And I have a few folks that I would like to get to know better and nominate! So keep on reading…

Here are the rules…

-Thank whoever nominated you and include a link to their blog
-Tell your readers three things about yourself
-Nominate bloggers you feel deserve the award
-Answer the questions from the person who nominated you
-Ask your nominees 5 questions of your choice, with one weird or funny one
-Notify your nominees by commenting on their blog

Let’s go! Here are three things about myself that I’d like to tell you today, in random order.

I can be a little OCD, about very random things. Like for instance, when it comes to running + my weekly mileage. I am a NUMBERS JUNKIE. I love going slightly over the mile marker when I run. Also, I hate when something ends on .99 or “9 miles” because I feel like the run is incomplete. I mean, you ran 9 miles but come on. 1 more mile and you hit triple digits!? Hey, it’s the little things.

As far as food goes- most of the time I prefer savory things over sweet. My favorite brunch items are always BAE (bacon and eggs) over french toast or pancakes. I am also obsessed with all things eggs benedict.

I always have to have my nails done. Call me a girlie girl if you want. Usually the day before I run the Hachie 50 miler (an ultra race I’ve done for the last 3 years) I HAVE to get my nails done. Priorities, right? It is like a tradition. Call it a good luck charm if you will.

Now to the five questions Charlene has asked me…

How long did you think about starting a blog before you did it? Wow, good question. I started blogging some years ago…mostly because I felt like a had a LOT to say, and growing up as an only child sometimes I find that I’m always in my own head about stuff. So I constantly feel the need to just LET IT OUT. Whether it is about running or just life issues, I feel like blogging is my own personal corner of the world where I can share with mostly complete strangers but I’m always surprised when people I actually know in real life care enough to read my blog. It’s quite fun.

-What’s your main motivation for blogging your way though life? Mostly since this is a running blog, I enjoy being able to chronicle my races and training from week to week. For me it’s also great to be able to look back and see what worked and what really didn’t. I also like reading other’s blogs and the blogging community in general. Everyone has so much goodness to share and I really enjoy seeing what is on the mind of other people. Be it in training for an endurance event or just day to day life.

-What’s the best thing you’ve ever eaten? WOW – I mean I am a foodie and a Yelper. I’ve eaten so many delicious things in my lifetime. I would have to say right now the best thing I’ve eaten and could eat over and over again is Korean food. The dish I am LOVING right now is bibimbap. I am actually kind of sad that I’m just now discovering how much I enjoy this dish! It has ALL of the things I love the most. Including rice and eggs and veggies and yummy Korean spices. For the win.

-What’s the one thing you need to accomplish in 2018 for this year to feel like a success? Probably knock out my next 100 mile race. And to PR in that distance. Running 100 miles was hands down the hardest thing I’ve ever done in my life. And for some reason I want to do it again. Sadistic, I know.

-What is the dumbest thing you’ve ever bought? Again…so many things in this category. HA. At the time I will say a pair of fall boots I bought on Amazon knowing that they were too small in size but I wanted them SO BADLY. And they were half a size too small but I thought perhaps I could squish my feet in them anyway…dumb dumb dumb. LOL.

Alright. That was fun! Here are the folks I’m nominating next! Do the survey or just answer the questions below. I won’t judge.

Kwame ~ Run There, Drink That
Tara ~ Tara Runs the World
Charlotte ~ Journey of a Tigress

Here are my questions for my nominees!

-What is your proudest moment in your life thus far?
-If you had to post one more picture on social media and then never post again for the rest of your life, what would it be a picture of?
-What is your favorite summer beverage (alcoholic or non alcoholic) besides water?
-How long have you been blogging?
-What is the best blog post that you’ve ever posted?

Everyone else! Tell me something random about your day today? Or just answer whatever questions on this page you want. Even if I didn’t nominate you. i’m easy.

Random Thoughts Tuesday.

Soo HEYYY!! I have declared this day to be RANDOM THOUGHTS Tuesday simply because I am off the J-O-B for the rest of the week (hello staycation- how u doin’) so I thought today would be a great day to spill what’s currently on my mind as of late. Usually that has to do with nothing more than frivolous matters…and of course, running. So…let’s get to it shall we?

Nothing else is getting me though this short work week other than rocking out to my music while working…and getting my miles in. I’m actually still kinda stiff from the Stars Above Run but I am loosening up quickly thanks to teaching classes at the gym and getting the body moving. Motion is lotion, baby.

-I actually thought briefly about taking a road trip to Austin since I have some significant time off but…I feel like a staycation is like way overdue? I just want to be at the pool, relax, clean my apartment…be selfish in all of my pursuits. Ya know?? The idea of this feels absolutely amazing. Plus I just went to Houston a week ago (4 hour drive, I guess that is like driving to another state for some of y’all up north! Ha) and road trips kinda wear me out.

Beach…or pool. Whatevs.

Lately I’ve been loving nothing but eggs. I don’t know why – I think sometimes I truly crave savory breakfasts. And protein. I’m getting away from the sweet stuff. I am sweet enough. Plus, have you guys tried the chicken chorizo egg bites from Starbucks?! Heaven.

People on Strava are doing the most lately. I feel like some people are so serious about it like they are playing a video game or something!? It is simply a training log to me. Y’all are really doing too much with the comments and etc. I also feel like Strava can be a double edged sword, you know? I mean seriously most of us are not Olympians (although sometimes I feel like I am one inside of my head) Anyways, do you. Who cares what everyone else is doing. Some days you are at the top of your chosen leaderboard (?) and others you are not. Do you and forget the rest. End of story.

It is really too hot outside here in Texas to be playing around. Drink your water, people. I got done with that run on Sunday and felt like I was going to die and I swore I had drank enough water. Then I tried to celebrate by having an adult beverage and by body was like NO NO NO. So…stay hydrated, my friends. It’s not a game. Especially when it’s 100 degrees.

I have been loving my weekend long runs (in the heat) with friends lately. I mean running and then pool time immediately after is like my dream come true. I think we are having too much fun. I love these folks forever.

Well that’s it for this week, y’all! Be good or be good at it.

What are some of your RANDOM thoughts today?

Random Thoughts Thursday.

Happy Thursday to ya!! It is a day where I share some randomness with you all. Sometimes it has to do with running- and other times it absolutely does not…SO, let’s get to it…shall we?

UM so it is the FIRST day of summer, apparently. But why is this such an anti-climactic day…well probably because down here in Texas it has felt like the first day of summer for the last few months.

The new group I run with during the week (I kid you not I am in like three running clubs right now, haha love it) is always running and they want to run together everyday pretty much. It’s like dang I love y’all but I am going into social fun friend time overload? I am an only child you guys!! I need my solo run time too. So I need to figure out when my solo run days will be. Mondays and/or Fridays are always good days for that.

Can we say I’m actually ready for FALL to get here?? State fair, fall scarves and boots, cooler non death like weather…and dare I say it. Pumpkin spice everything?? I’m serious y’all can we get straight to it? I simply cannot wait. Here for all of it.

In other news I do love me some pool time so that is one thing that is winning about summer. I took THREE straight days off next week and I will be at the pool 99.9 percent of that time. It is not a game you guys.

PET PEEVE of the week (Yes I am making this a thing)- Social media friends that either like something from 800 years ago on your feed, when you just posted something new…OR will like a whole crap ton of things ALL AT ONCE. I know…pretty PETTY right…but just funny/annoying to me. End rant.

I am feeling like a hairstyle change is coming again soon…and just change in general really. First it was curls, then I wanted straight. Now I am thinking about color again. Remember when my hair was sangria colored? Perhaps we will do that. Or DARE I say braids of some sort. I get tired of the braids look real fast though. Braids I feel like can be so 1997. We will see…I may have to experiment in the coming week.

Apparently it is also national selfie day. So get to snappin’. I want to see all of yall’s mugs on IG today.

Tell me some of your random thoughts/pet peeves this week?!

Random Thoughts Thursday.

Hey there! AHH yes it is that day of the week again. Where I just kind of throw my random thoughts out for the universe for you to read and judge. Well hey it’s whatevs. Come on random thoughts Thursday!!! Let’s just get right to it…

Strangely I’m still on this country music kick (y’all it was so bad that I even listened to it on a long run not long ago…I kid you not) and it is making me miss country dancing. Me and my bestie Natalie used to go country dancing ALLL the time in the summer back in the day. I think It is time I head back over there. Also…the country Tailgate Party station on Spotify…find it…go get you some. What can I say, I am your typical Texan.

Also my kombucha addiction has come back to play. Particularly this apple berry one. Oh so good.

For some reason this week I’m on the struggle bus a bit when it comes to dealing with the Texas heat + humidity. I think this is mostly mental, so I’ll get over it soon. I’m thankful for running friends though who get up early with me to combat this fact. Next week I will be buckling down with the early morning speedwork too. I mean honestly without running friends I probably would have thrown in the towel already with this running thing. And take up knitting or something. No shade to those who knit. Ha.

Anyone care about this TEA regarding Tiffany Haddish outing who BIT Beyonce at a party?! Like for some reason Tiffany keeps bringing it up? Maybe she has it out for Sanaa Lathan or something. Not sure. I will always love me some Sanaa though. Brown Sugar was my movie. Hey, what she does in her personal life ain’t my business. Even if it was a “love bite”. Oh my.

PET PEEVE of the week: People walking reeeallly close to me on the street as I’m headed somewhere, just all up in my kool aid behind me for no good reason. I get it we may be going to the same place. I just need at least a few feet between us…or better yet if I’m going too slow for you just pass me? You aren’t going to rush me because you are in a hurry! Also people who just stand in your personal space in general. Not a huge fan.

I think I’m going to have to move to Chicago or wherever they teach this HIPLET class. Hip hop ballet for real?! I am so here for it. Teach me how to stand on my tip toes like that too.

And yes admittedly I kind of miss taking dance classes. I dance at my standing desk at work all day long because of this fact. They do have a hip hop class at the gym that I teach at. The girl that teaches it too used to be a Dallas Cowboys cheerleader and I hear she’s pretty good. We shall see. I’ll do some dabbling in dancing maybe as cross training this marathon/ultra training season.

What is on your mind this week? Any pet peeves come to mind?!

Random Thoughts Thursday.

Hello there! It is one of my favorite days of the week…that would be random thoughts Thursday!! Let’s rant and rave and talk about all of the things today…in no particular order…so gather ’round!!

For whatever reason this week just seems longer than ever. I am also annoyed by anything and every little thing and I do not know why. Like I almost went AWF yesterday when this girl at the front desk at the gym looked at me all up & down like I was not an instructor coming back behind the desk to get the mic to sub a class. You think I’m coming back behind the desk for what?!! To steal protein powder heffa?? But…anyyywaysss…I am OVERJOYED that I will be getting a massage tomorrow evening because all will be happy and well in the world. Woo-sah.

Isn’t this photo of 2018 Boston Marathon winner Des Linden the best?! One of my training buds ran the Boston Marathon and his wife captured this awesome photo so just thought I’d share it. She just looks so focused man!! That weather looked crazy too. Love me some Desi.

Next week is my BIRTHDAY WEEK (holla holla) and I’ve already taken Thursday off (which is the actual day) but not Friday?? I guess I didn’t think that one through. I think I’m going to take Friday off too…so I can have a SUPER long luxurious weekend next weekend. Yaaaas. Genius. Hopefully I can get away with sneaking in an extra vacation day. My boss is usually pretty nice about this stuff so we shall see. Lord knows I need the stay-cation DO ME time.

I’m starting to realize that I need to listen to a little bit of gangsta type music to get through the day. Specifically Cardi B’s new album has been getting me by. It’s just so catchy. Cardi B you sure do know how to crank out those BOPS.

RBF is kind of my favorite Instagram selfie pose at the moment. I think someone said smiling causes wrinkles anyway? Serious RBF face is where it’s at. If you don’t know what RBF is you can google it. You’re welcome.

What are some of your random thoughts this week!?

Random Thoughts Thursday.

Hello and welcome to random thoughts Thursday! This is the day where I dish on the latest and greatest in running related (and not so running related) material! So, without further ado…let’s get to what’s going on inside of my crazy mind lately.

I got my hair done yesterday before going on a date and can I just tell you how much I absolutely NEEDED that pampering session?! I kind of wish I could do this once a week but unfortunately income tax money only comes once a year. It was lovely though. See I even have a selfie to prove it.

-This is without a doubt my favorite time of year. I love it when the sunshine is loud and proud and I especially love the extra daylight in the evenings. It is making my double run days that much more fun.

How awesome is this coffee mug!? My favorite little coffee shop has the best ones. YOU GO GIRL. Great way to start the morning after a good run.

Of course, it is DARK AS ALL GET OUT in the mornings now though for my early runs. But it does help when you have your frans to get you up in the a.m. & knock it out.

I saw a coyote in broad daylight during my lunch run the other day. It was actually kind of funny because we both just kind of hung out there a sec and stared at one another for a bit. Like, we were both asking each other, “WTF are you doing…on MY trail?!” So finally I threw in the towel and re routed my run.

I am thinking about doing a BIRTHDAY RUN again this year. Yes, I will be turning the big 3-4. As most of my faithful readers know I ran 33 miles on my birthday last year. And it’s perfect training for my upcoming 50 miler. So I will probably have to take off work and make it happen. It’s either that or run for 34 minutes (HA) we shall see.

Okay – confession time, sometimes I just read blogs for the comments. Just me? People can be funny.

Also, if you do not have a little bit of a sense of humor I am probably not going to be an avid reader of your blog. Sorry not sorry. There is just too much seriousness out on earth right now. A sister needs a good laugh.

Maybe it is just that my IDAGF light shines a little brighter as I get older? Welcome to being in your 30s. It’s fun here.

What are some of your random thoughts this week?! Tell me any and everything! It is a no judgement zone. Usually.

10 (Frivolous) Reasons to Go for a Run.

Hey…I know running is amazing for your body mind and soul. There are some days you NEED to get that run in simply for your own sanity! So, today I am going to list way too many (frivolous) reasons why you need to go for a run. Right now. At lunch. In a few hours. Tonight! Whatever suits your fancy. And some of them are silly reasons! So let’s just get to it.

1. To get a TAN. Yes, that is one of the main reasons why I like running in the summer. Don’t forget the sunscreen.

2. Because you want to BEAT the time (or distance) on your last run. So, your last run was 5.02 miles? Let’s see if we can make it 5.03. Why? Just cuz it feels good to run a little more sometimes.

3. To feel the dirt underneath your feet. Actually sometimes I go do trail runs for the sole reason of feeling a different type of terrain under my feet. Especially after doing so much dang road running, sometimes the soft trail just feels amazing to the body.

4. The work day was just insane and everything went wrong and now you need to blow off a little steam. I tell you what there is nothing like running after a stressful day at work. Sometimes that is all I need to turn the day around.

5. To earn that margarita at happy hour. I’m not judging.

6. To run off the margarita you had at happy hour. Also not judging (plus running after having a drink or two can be kind of interesting – not that I’ve done that, not at all)

7. To go have a gab fest with your runner girlfriends. Nuff said.

8. To get your butt up earlier in the morning so you can run early and then have some coffee at your favorite local coffee shop afterwards.

9. To break in a new pair of fresh running kicks. I am in love with these pink ones.

10. Because you want to get to the top of the leaderboard of your run club on Strava. HEY…there is no harm in that. We all need a little healthy competition every now and again. While you’re at it, find me on there and let’s be friends!

What are some (frivolous) reasons why you would go for a run?!

Random Thoughts Thursday.

Hello and happy RANDOM thoughts Thursday to you! If you’re new here, this is a day where I share my deepest darkest thoughts and confessions…sometimes it is regarding running (because yes, this is a blog about that very topic) and sometimes it definitely is NOT!! So, stay a while, grab a snack or a cup of TEA and let’s go ALL IN, shall we?

First of all, I am tired and through and ready for it to STOP RAINING down in Texas. Last week, it rained basically every day and then this week has been a lot of the same. I’m starting to sound like a broken record talking about rain. And yes, when it rains in Texas it pours people. We will get torrential downpours, usually they are short bursts of rain thankfully but still annoying.

Running in the rain can be kind of lovely though. Cleansing to the body mind and soul. I prefer more drizzles than intense rain though.

I have some new readers lately which is kind of fun and also kind of funny at the same time. Mostly because I feel like new readers come in here and kind of read my blog and think, “WTF am I reading”? Yes, I am an ultrarunner who runs a lot. And I may not be everyone’s cup of tea. But I am someone’s shot of whiskey! Keep reading and you will catch on to the crazy. I am like a train, jump on for the ride or you will get left. kthxbye.

Although I run a heck of a lot (and love it) I still love to help new runners and get new people motivated to run. So, I am going to start writing more “running for beginners” type posts, just kind of sprinkle ‘em in there. Because yes, you do have to start somewhere. I know I sure did…you can read my story here. I’m 8 years strong of ultra and marathon running, still rocking. Running and I have been through hell and back too. But build the foundation for that strong brick house and you can get better and increase your endurance. Patience. Promise.

Moving on – I mean I have to say as much as the Kardashians make me gag at times, my goodness do these folks make some pretty babies!! I love me some cutie pie mixed babies that is for sure. So freaking adorable. Loved the pics of Chicago West. Yes, I know it was a surrogate that popped that one out. But still cute.

Kombucha is quickly becoming my favorite beverage (next to wine). I think I have it at least 2-3 times a week now. They must put magic in those bottles. Organic probiotic goodness, so good for ya. This one is local and phenomenal.

I have kind of a pet peeve. Don’t get mad at me? But I get annoyed when people ask a lot of questions. I don’t mind questions in general but I feel like sometimes people just ask questions that they already know the answer to, to be annoying? Or maybe because they want to see your reaction. I’m just saying…Google is your friend Curious George. Do your research. End rant.

This is kind of how I feel when people ask questions that google can answer…HA. *walking away*

I also get annoyed when people TEXT you without a purpose. Like when they just text and say, “Hi” or “What are you doing – aka WYD”. What do you want? Please have a purpose when you text. This kind of explains how I feel perfectly. LOL.

I have lately been needing some new podcasts to listen to. NOT running ones, really. More like pop culture? I don’t really like listening to people talk about running while I’m running. I did find this interesting one though called “Missing Richard Simmons” (it was a short series) that I listened to while I was running and I was hooked. But now I’m done with that one. Give me some recommendations.

Tell me something random and/or rant about your week! Any good pop culture type podcasts I should listen to?
