Random Thoughts Thursday.

Hello and welcome to random thoughts Thursday! This is the day where I dish on the latest and greatest in running related (and not so running related) material! So, without further ado…let’s get to what’s going on inside of my crazy mind lately.

I got my hair done yesterday before going on a date and can I just tell you how much I absolutely NEEDED that pampering session?! I kind of wish I could do this once a week but unfortunately income tax money only comes once a year. It was lovely though. See I even have a selfie to prove it.

-This is without a doubt my favorite time of year. I love it when the sunshine is loud and proud and I especially love the extra daylight in the evenings. It is making my double run days that much more fun.

How awesome is this coffee mug!? My favorite little coffee shop has the best ones. YOU GO GIRL. Great way to start the morning after a good run.

Of course, it is DARK AS ALL GET OUT in the mornings now though for my early runs. But it does help when you have your frans to get you up in the a.m. & knock it out.

I saw a coyote in broad daylight during my lunch run the other day. It was actually kind of funny because we both just kind of hung out there a sec and stared at one another for a bit. Like, we were both asking each other, “WTF are you doing…on MY trail?!” So finally I threw in the towel and re routed my run.

I am thinking about doing a BIRTHDAY RUN again this year. Yes, I will be turning the big 3-4. As most of my faithful readers know I ran 33 miles on my birthday last year. And it’s perfect training for my upcoming 50 miler. So I will probably have to take off work and make it happen. It’s either that or run for 34 minutes (HA) we shall see.

Okay – confession time, sometimes I just read blogs for the comments. Just me? People can be funny.

Also, if you do not have a little bit of a sense of humor I am probably not going to be an avid reader of your blog. Sorry not sorry. There is just too much seriousness out on earth right now. A sister needs a good laugh.

Maybe it is just that my IDAGF light shines a little brighter as I get older? Welcome to being in your 30s. It’s fun here.

What are some of your random thoughts this week?! Tell me any and everything! It is a no judgement zone. Usually.

10 (Frivolous) Reasons to Go for a Run.

Hey…I know running is amazing for your body mind and soul. There are some days you NEED to get that run in simply for your own sanity! So, today I am going to list way too many (frivolous) reasons why you need to go for a run. Right now. At lunch. In a few hours. Tonight! Whatever suits your fancy. And some of them are silly reasons! So let’s just get to it.

1. To get a TAN. Yes, that is one of the main reasons why I like running in the summer. Don’t forget the sunscreen.

2. Because you want to BEAT the time (or distance) on your last run. So, your last run was 5.02 miles? Let’s see if we can make it 5.03. Why? Just cuz it feels good to run a little more sometimes.

3. To feel the dirt underneath your feet. Actually sometimes I go do trail runs for the sole reason of feeling a different type of terrain under my feet. Especially after doing so much dang road running, sometimes the soft trail just feels amazing to the body.

4. The work day was just insane and everything went wrong and now you need to blow off a little steam. I tell you what there is nothing like running after a stressful day at work. Sometimes that is all I need to turn the day around.

5. To earn that margarita at happy hour. I’m not judging.

6. To run off the margarita you had at happy hour. Also not judging (plus running after having a drink or two can be kind of interesting – not that I’ve done that, not at all)

7. To go have a gab fest with your runner girlfriends. Nuff said.

8. To get your butt up earlier in the morning so you can run early and then have some coffee at your favorite local coffee shop afterwards.

9. To break in a new pair of fresh running kicks. I am in love with these pink ones.

10. Because you want to get to the top of the leaderboard of your run club on Strava. HEY…there is no harm in that. We all need a little healthy competition every now and again. While you’re at it, find me on there and let’s be friends!

What are some (frivolous) reasons why you would go for a run?!

Random Thoughts Thursday.

Hello and happy RANDOM thoughts Thursday to you! If you’re new here, this is a day where I share my deepest darkest thoughts and confessions…sometimes it is regarding running (because yes, this is a blog about that very topic) and sometimes it definitely is NOT!! So, stay a while, grab a snack or a cup of TEA and let’s go ALL IN, shall we?

First of all, I am tired and through and ready for it to STOP RAINING down in Texas. Last week, it rained basically every day and then this week has been a lot of the same. I’m starting to sound like a broken record talking about rain. And yes, when it rains in Texas it pours people. We will get torrential downpours, usually they are short bursts of rain thankfully but still annoying.

Running in the rain can be kind of lovely though. Cleansing to the body mind and soul. I prefer more drizzles than intense rain though.

I have some new readers lately which is kind of fun and also kind of funny at the same time. Mostly because I feel like new readers come in here and kind of read my blog and think, “WTF am I reading”? Yes, I am an ultrarunner who runs a lot. And I may not be everyone’s cup of tea. But I am someone’s shot of whiskey! Keep reading and you will catch on to the crazy. I am like a train, jump on for the ride or you will get left. kthxbye.

Although I run a heck of a lot (and love it) I still love to help new runners and get new people motivated to run. So, I am going to start writing more “running for beginners” type posts, just kind of sprinkle ‘em in there. Because yes, you do have to start somewhere. I know I sure did…you can read my story here. I’m 8 years strong of ultra and marathon running, still rocking. Running and I have been through hell and back too. But build the foundation for that strong brick house and you can get better and increase your endurance. Patience. Promise.

Moving on – I mean I have to say as much as the Kardashians make me gag at times, my goodness do these folks make some pretty babies!! I love me some cutie pie mixed babies that is for sure. So freaking adorable. Loved the pics of Chicago West. Yes, I know it was a surrogate that popped that one out. But still cute.

Kombucha is quickly becoming my favorite beverage (next to wine). I think I have it at least 2-3 times a week now. They must put magic in those bottles. Organic probiotic goodness, so good for ya. This one is local and phenomenal.

I have kind of a pet peeve. Don’t get mad at me? But I get annoyed when people ask a lot of questions. I don’t mind questions in general but I feel like sometimes people just ask questions that they already know the answer to, to be annoying? Or maybe because they want to see your reaction. I’m just saying…Google is your friend Curious George. Do your research. End rant.

This is kind of how I feel when people ask questions that google can answer…HA. *walking away*

I also get annoyed when people TEXT you without a purpose. Like when they just text and say, “Hi” or “What are you doing – aka WYD”. What do you want? Please have a purpose when you text. This kind of explains how I feel perfectly. LOL.

I have lately been needing some new podcasts to listen to. NOT running ones, really. More like pop culture? I don’t really like listening to people talk about running while I’m running. I did find this interesting one though called “Missing Richard Simmons” (it was a short series) that I listened to while I was running and I was hooked. But now I’m done with that one. Give me some recommendations.

Tell me something random and/or rant about your week! Any good pop culture type podcasts I should listen to?

Random Thoughts Thursday.

Well, it is RANDOM THOUGHTS Thursday and I have to say that I am here for it!! I hope you are having a great week so far. It is without a doubt that day of the week where I spill all of the latest and greatest on what is currently going on in my life right now. Sometimes it has to do with RUNNING (because yes, this is a running and fitness blog) and sometimes it definitely does not! So, come along for the ride…let’s go!

I fell like lately every blog post I am talking about the weather. But I kind of can’t help it because Texas weather has just been so up and down! Today, the high in Dallas is just about 80 degrees. I kid you not. When I heard that on the radio this morning, I just about went home to grab my swimsuit. Take me to the nearest pool please and thank you. Drink with an umbrella in it, in hand.

Never mind the fact that it was just about 20 degrees a few short days ago. Yeah, never mind that nonsense. I am more than ready for spring and my Texas bluebonnets to start popping up everywhere.

I’ve been listening to The Love Below album by Outkast this week. Love that album. “She Lives in my Lap” – on repeat. Ha, great song.

I love my new road running group. Like, I think they are all excellent and cool and really good looking. And also, I want to continue running with them until I qualify for Boston. So I can get a cool Boston jacket, you know like the popular kids/jocks in high school with the letter jackets?! Kinda like that. (I know some of you already have jackets that read my blog so don’t rub it in my face – my ego is fragile.) But, I am going to wait until the FALL to shoot my shot since I am only a few minutes off from a BQ. I do all of my long runs with them right now so I think that is helping. Until then, I will just keep running my 50 mile and 50k races and pounding the dirt path. Because, I love my trail running group too. It’s fun to have 2 groups to run with.

You know what is funny about TRAIL and ROAD runners?! You don’t have many hybrids. Meaning, runners that really enjoy and dabble in both surfaces. For instance, I do both ultras and then shorter road races. But then I talk to my good looking BQ roadie friends and they are all like, “Oh, NO I don’t do trails- that is too hard” or something to that affect. And then, the trail/mountain goats are all like “Road?! Pssh….trails are where it’s at. Who does road races anymore??” I’m telling you – there are very few runners that really like both. I feel like you are either good at one or really good at the other. I just so happen to like both. So I think I am a unicorn.

Speaking of unicorns, my mama bought me this unicorn for Valentine’s Day?! Isn’t it super cute – his name is Fluffy.

And there you have it!

Tell me something random about your week! What do you like better – road running or trails, or do you equally like both?

Random Thoughts Thursday.

Hi, hello and happy Thursday to you! It is time for some random thoughts. Because that is what we do on this day!! Sometimes I rant about running (since duh, this is a running and fitness blog) and other times it is about frivolous matters. Anyway, here are some of my thoughts from this week.

Runners, do y’all still get HYPE about collecting race medals?! I mean, I race often so I still am getting tons of medals but since I moved I have not put back up my medal rack to hang them and show ‘em off. So now all of my medals are kind of collecting dust in a box. Maybe I should put them back up to get excited about them again? I actually have really enjoyed collecting my belt BUCKLES from ultra running. So now I’m kind of like, buckles are the new medals? Meh, I don’t know. It’s so much hardware. I’m starting to feel like a hoarder with so many medals to be honest. I know there’s like a charity where you can donate all of your medals. But I’m not ready to commit to that yet either. LE SIGH.

Is it just me or is everyone on the roads extra road rage-y for no reason lately?? I have never encountered so many people on the roads that don’t let you into the lane during traffic. Dude, I’m putting my blinker on and asking you politely and everything. Geez. Get over yourself. Maybe it is just Texas drivers.

Yes, Texas drivers…you can be not so nice.

I am embarrassed to say this but I am starting to like listening to country music while driving home. Not the old school country though, like modern country. Luke Bryan country. I don’t know why I’m embarrassed to share this with you. Perhaps I will make a country song spin playlist for my classes. I’m sure I’d have at least 10 people straight up walk out. HAHA.

I think I have issues with staring at people for too long. Usually I am admiring something that they have on, and I like what they are wearing or I think they are an attractive person. Or I am deep in thought so just staring in that general direction far too long. But I’ve decided that I need to stop doing this because I think it pisses people off when you stare at them. I don’t like it done to me, like at all. Right? It’s like, do I have something on my face? So awkward, I know. I’ve decided it is okay to be awkward.

Back to music. Lately I’ve been listening to a lot of old Janet Jackson songs on Spotify. She has really made some good hits in the past decade or so. Well, few decades. I told you, I’m all over the place with music.

What random thoughts do you want to share this week? Any music you listen to you are kind of embarrassed about?

TGIFriday Faves.

Hello again Friday!! I am so happy that you are here. Cannot wait for some fun free time this weekend. Why does it seem like this week dragged a bit? Not sure but very happy to let my hair down and enjoy some fun free time. I’ve got a 25K trail race on tap, good times with friends and loved ones and then a whole lot of relaxing on the agenda!

Let’s get to this week’s faves!!

This cute top…I feel like especially living in Texas I’m always needing more long sleeved tops for winter.

18 strength moves you’ve got to try. Love me some russian twists.

28 ways to never have a wardrobe malfunction again. I admittedly have never tried no-tie shoelaces. Clearly its time.

The Forerunner 645 with MUSIC!? Who has one? Tell me all about it…I kind of want one.

That’s all for this week! Have a marvelous Friday.

What’s on tap for your weekend? Any fun races? Who is venturing out to the trails?!

Random Thoughts Thursday.

Hi there and welcome to random thoughts Thursday! This is the part of the week that I spill on the latest and greatest thoughts going on in my head. Sometimes it is about running and sometimes it is definitely not. So have a seat, feel free to play along and/or laugh at my randomness. Let’s get started, shall we?

Hey, while you’re at it…get you a snack too.

Janet approves.

So are you super into the, “new year new me” stuff that 2018 brings? I kind of am and then again I am not. I actually taught a class on New Year’s Day at the gym so I love being a part of that when we get new members coming in and taking over all of the classes. And yes, I realize a lot of them fall off a short time later. But I guess when it comes to my personal life I kind of feel like it’s a bit flaky to hop on the bandwagon of saying you will somehow be this brand new person just because it is January 1st. I do love the optimism though. So I’m torn. HA.

Speaking of flaky I do think that is one thing I want to leave behind from last year. Flaky ass people! I just do not have time for it, anymore. I am too busy to dance around people that cannot make up their minds. Make a plan and stick to it. If you are a flip flopper you will be erased deleted and unfollowed.

Thank you! Deuces.

One website that I am obsessed with is Lipstick Alley (guiltiest of celebrity gossip pleasures). Well that, and Reddit Running. If you are not already following Reddit Running I suggest you do so immediately. Complaints and Confessions Thursday…LOVE.

I am eyeing another 100 miler to run this year. My eye is on Brazos Bend and yes there are GATORS on the trail. My friends who have done it (yes I have so many crazy trail runner friends now and I love it) tell me that the gators are used to people and they actually don’t really move from their homes during the race that has like hundreds of runners on the trail. HMMM…I like danger so we shall see what happens. Registration for the hundo has not even opened yet so I have some time.

I am actually missing dancing so I am going to have to either sign up for some dance classes in the near future or hit up some salsa dancing with friends one weekend. Fun fact I used to teach dance at the gym (hence my blog name thedancingrunner) so dancing is just in my bones. Now I just dance while I run.

Yes. Exactly like that.

This year I think I am going to be a RUN CLUB hopper some more. I actually love going to different run groups to see what the dynamic is there. I host a morning run group during the week but love running with different folks on weekends. Plus it helps me change up my usual long run route. This weekend I will be running with my favorites, the White Rock Running Co-Op. They are some speedsters and they also know how to have a good time. Cheers to miles and mimosas after.

What are some of your random thoughts this week?

TGIFriday Faves.

Yaaas!!! It is Friday! I think that deserves a festive thumbs up don’t you think? Hope you all have a fun weekend planned! I’ll be running the BMW Dallas Marathon on Sunday. I’m ready for the 26.2 mile joyride!!

Courteney Cox Friends GIF - Find & Share on GIPHY

And oh yes, I’ve been checking the weather for this weekend, and it is looking oh so glorious. I’m loving some chilly Texas weather.

I really wanted to use the above gif just because it is oh so awesome. And now I want ribs.

Anyway, let’s get into this week’s faves!!

Tips for motivating your 2018 racing season. I am eyeing some pretty awesome races (including trails) for next year. I’m definitely ready to get back on that dirt path!!

-Loving this look. I am in need this fall of some more dark denim.

-Naughty and nice coffee mugs. I want both.

Mistletoe ‘ritas!! I love festive drinks with fresh cranberries involved.

-Obsessed with all coasters from the South Austin Gallery. Aren’t they fun?! I have one in my office with the skyline of Dallas and now I want more.

Have a great weekend!

What are you up to this weekend? Is it snowing where you are?!
It was 28 DEGREES this morning! I did a chilly morning run and I am still thawing out.

Let’s get on to the random thoughts for today, shall we?

I’m running the BMW Dallas Marathon this upcoming Sunday! Yes, I can’t wait and I think the weather is going to be pretty much perfection. Temps at the start close to the 40s? HECK YES. I am all in.

I don’t do very well with cutting back on miles leading up to race day. I’ve been scaling back which as someone who runs higher mileage is like pulling out my eye lashes one by one. My body is kind of enjoying the break though. But mentally it is tough. And I’ve got all the attitude and sass in the world this week. So DON’T COME FOR ME. LOL. Watch out, I bite.

But hey, I can chillax and do things like read books, catch up on TV and…dare I say, eat CARBS?! Hallelujah.

I’ve officially been listening to Christmas music and slowly getting into the spirit lately. Plus I’ll be going to my favorite gift exchange/purse party with coworkers which is one of my favorite holiday parties of all time! Lord knows I am in dire need of a new purse.

Do you make cookies/Christmas treats for people as gifts?! I have been thinking about what I will make lately. I kind of love doing Christmas baking. I think this year I will do my puppy chow and throw some Christmas M&Ms in there. Also, what a terrible name for a dessert right? But they are oh so good.

What are you looking forward to this holiday season? Any Christmas races?

Thanksgiving Eve Random Thoughts and a Turkey Day Workout Playlist.

Hi there! Happy Thanksgiving EVE!! I’ve got a fab Turkey burn workout playlist and some random thoughts a day early for you today! Since it is basically the end of the work week. Love it love it. Let’s all celebrate in unison.

And here with go with the random thoughts, in random order.

The Sweet Harvest Pumpkin tea from Celestial Seasonings this week has been giving me life. It is oh so good and has been the perfect way to boost the work day. I may be becoming a tea lover more than coffee. Okay not really. But I do love me some tea in the chilly months. Soothes the soul.

Thanksgiving punch? You had better believe I will be making a rendition of this come tomorrow. It is happening.

Does anyone make a super special dish on Turkey Day?! I always make the sides and my mama does the turkey. Anything sweet potato related, sign me up. Specifically with marshmallows.

The Seven Pillars of Running Wisdom. Fantastic podcast! Get after it.

While we are on the topic of podcasts, doesn’t it seem like everyone & their granny has one lately? I feel like podcasting is the new blogging. Also I believe that not everyone really needs a podcast. But let’s just keep that between you and me.

But I am entertained by the pop culture and the hot mess type ones. I mean, I do like the Real Housewives so you already knew I liked trainwrecks.

Also a confession to make, I still watch ‘Watch What Happens Live’ on Bravo every now and again. Andy Cohen has a place in my heart.

Did you know that John Legend and his wifey did a macaroni and cheese cookoff? I thought that was the cutest. John Legend’s mac and cheese is the more traditional one that everyone likes and Chrissy’s is the more modern up to date one. Which one would you choose?

The CHELSEA TROT will be going down tomorrow morning, aka long run before the relaxing day. There is nothing better than putting your feet up after working hard and relaxing with family and good eats.

Without further ado let’s get to the Turkey Trot playlist! The spin playlist will be back next week!! For more workout tracks, visit me over on Spotify!

How’s your week going? What are you thankful for??
Running, good friends and family, chilly mornings in Texas finally – and of course YOU!
