Personal Running Pet Peeves.

So it is probably something not a lot of people talk about in the realm of running since the sport is really mostly a positive and encouraging one. But I am here to talk about it. Why? Because we can! Runner pet peeves…I am here for it. Allow me to give you a few of mine in no particular order. Of course, with gifs very much included.

Oh, how I miss me some RHOA a la Phaedra.

Non-runners thinking a 5k is a marathon. Actually to me this is more funny than anything else. Come on people. Marathons are so common now. Really…26.2 miles is quite the feat but let’s be honest. A lot of people do it. So, you should know by now. Stop asking how many miles it is. Thanks.

Just people at random honking at you in their cars while you run. Same goes for cat calling. It’s just not cute. I just want to get through this last mile without you annoying the crap out of me with these noises. Peaceful. That is how I like it.

People that join run groups and leave their headphones in the entire social run. I wanna get to know ya, okay?! At least keep an earbud out so you can be safe. Don’t come to the social run and be anti-social. You won’t be invited to the cookout next time.

Another FAQ by the non-runner- Doesn’t running BOTHER YOUR KNEES?! Actually, no it doesn’t. Sometimes other things but damn I’ve got some pretty strong knees. I must say. Thank you baby Jesus for that.

People that stare you down as you pass them while running. I know, you wish you were running with me or something like that. Okay. Join me next time? I don’t bite. Usually.

Runners that run a little too close to you when you are running together. Okay, bud. We are both super sweaty and your arm keeps rubbing up against mine and I kind of need some personal space?

Maybe you just like affection!? This is not the time for that. Let me have my runner bubble.

What are some of your personal running pet peeves?

Random Thoughts Thursday.

Hi, hello and happy Thursday to you! It is time for some random thoughts. Because that is what we do on this day!! Sometimes I rant about running (since duh, this is a running and fitness blog) and other times it is about frivolous matters. Anyway, here are some of my thoughts from this week.

Runners, do y’all still get HYPE about collecting race medals?! I mean, I race often so I still am getting tons of medals but since I moved I have not put back up my medal rack to hang them and show ‘em off. So now all of my medals are kind of collecting dust in a box. Maybe I should put them back up to get excited about them again? I actually have really enjoyed collecting my belt BUCKLES from ultra running. So now I’m kind of like, buckles are the new medals? Meh, I don’t know. It’s so much hardware. I’m starting to feel like a hoarder with so many medals to be honest. I know there’s like a charity where you can donate all of your medals. But I’m not ready to commit to that yet either. LE SIGH.

Is it just me or is everyone on the roads extra road rage-y for no reason lately?? I have never encountered so many people on the roads that don’t let you into the lane during traffic. Dude, I’m putting my blinker on and asking you politely and everything. Geez. Get over yourself. Maybe it is just Texas drivers.

Yes, Texas drivers…you can be not so nice.

I am embarrassed to say this but I am starting to like listening to country music while driving home. Not the old school country though, like modern country. Luke Bryan country. I don’t know why I’m embarrassed to share this with you. Perhaps I will make a country song spin playlist for my classes. I’m sure I’d have at least 10 people straight up walk out. HAHA.

I think I have issues with staring at people for too long. Usually I am admiring something that they have on, and I like what they are wearing or I think they are an attractive person. Or I am deep in thought so just staring in that general direction far too long. But I’ve decided that I need to stop doing this because I think it pisses people off when you stare at them. I don’t like it done to me, like at all. Right? It’s like, do I have something on my face? So awkward, I know. I’ve decided it is okay to be awkward.

Back to music. Lately I’ve been listening to a lot of old Janet Jackson songs on Spotify. She has really made some good hits in the past decade or so. Well, few decades. I told you, I’m all over the place with music.

What random thoughts do you want to share this week? Any music you listen to you are kind of embarrassed about?

Running Funnies, Continued.

They say that laughter is like medicine to the soul. And I don’t know about you but I definitely need a laugh this week! So let’s get to it.

Runner’s struggles…they really are real.

Me, every Saturday.

Trail running is the best! And yes, every stick is definitely a snake.

I definitely strength train 7 days a week.

Run like a girl.

Running buds, we talk about everything.

Because if I were rich I would sign up for every race.

Because, P.R. or E.R. Ha!

How’s your training going this week? See some more running funnies here and here!

Beat the Heat and Running Funnies.

Another fantastic 7 miles done with my running crew. I have to say I think 7 is my magic number lately for running! Or I guess…make that 7.3. A solid hour or so of running crazy early in the morning…does the body good.

IMG_20160623_080218

I think these morning runs are the number one thing that makes me successful and consistent with training. In the summer (especially in Texas)…the earlier you get up to beat the heat…the better. I’ll take 70s and 80s over 100 degree temps any day. Plus I just feel like I get better quality runs when it’s not so oppressively hot outside. You feel me?!

Today’s run was great and we got some good convo and laughs in while we were at it.

Speaking of laughs…I’ve got some more running funnies for you today…courtesy of Pinterest. Let’s see if you can relate to my common runner struggles. In no particular order…

7 Distance Runner Habits (As Told by Tina Fey).

So in honor of Tina Fey’s birthday (yes, that’s a real holiday) we are doing a little GIF tribute!! And who doesn’t like a gif party? It’s a great way to celebrate Thursday…I mean Friday EVE.

This morning I ran 8 miles with the Irving Running Club crew. We had basically a downpour of rain towards the end but I was so happy to get the miles in. It’s always a good day when you can run 8 miles before 8 a.m.

600_450155593.jpeg

So if you are a marathon or distance runner…you know we have our random habits…struggles…quirks…if you will. It’s all a part of the game of this beautiful sport. Here are some runner habits, in no particular order.

1. We like to get up real early…at the crack of dawn, for the pure love of getting those miles in. Nothing better than running with friends in the darkness.

2. Some of us tend to spend more money on running shoes and gear than on regular people clothes. Hey, it’s all about priorities. And if friends/family could just buy us running clothes/shoes as gifts on holidays &or/birthdays, OR gift cards to running stores…then that’s even better.

3. We have come to accept that blisters and chafing is just all a part of that runner life. Hopefully you are fully stocked with body glide and sporty socks to keep those feet looking somewhat decent.

4. Most of our friends are runners…I mean, let’s be honest it’s a tad harder for the non runners to relate. Runner friends just understand your crazy.

5. Runners enjoy good food and drink. Another glass of wine? Why yes please. I didn’t do my long run this weekend for nothing. Hashtag treat yoself.

6. Runners like to sleep. And when we are not running, we are usually at home chillin’, watching Netflix and/or planning our next run.

7. We get REAL excited about things like races, or traveling for a race. They are called RACE-cations. Yeah, it’s kind of the best thing ever. Let’s run all the miles and soak up all the endorphins.

What are some of your runner habits? Don’t be shy!

3 Days to 50k and Running Funnies.

I’ve been seeing all of these funny running posts on Pinterest and I thought I’d share some with you today. Just because I feel like at times runners tend to take themselves too serious. Myself included. And hey…we all need to laugh at ourselves every now and again…right? Right.

Yes…now this chart is absolutely spot on. True story indeed.

I ran a few miles with the Irving Running Club this morning…2nd to last taper run before this weekend’s 50k. Excitement is definitely brewing! Can’t wait for the 31 mile/50k joyride. 3 days, baby!!

Hopefully you’ve encountered some of these running struggles a time or two…and if not you can just laugh at my struggles. You are welcome.

Laughter is the Best Medicine.

Laughter is…without a doubt…the best medicine. And because all of these things make me giggle…I thought I’d share them with you today. You’re welcome.

First of all…can we talk about how much I would like to take a JUMPING class? That sounds insanely fun. In fact, they look like they are having a little too much fun. And those horses…cracking me up.

While we’re on the topic of fitness…what type of runner are you? I think I’m the first one.

Also, this…I can absolutely relate.

Here you go.

First of all…can we talk about how I’ve actually seen things like this occur in the gym? Yep. It’s quite scary, really.
