8 Miles and 4 Post Run Smoothies for Running Recovery.

8 miles before 8 am with my early bird running crew this morning. We threw in a few speedy strides for good measure. This morning was perfect shorts/tank top weather…60s with a light breeze. It’s truly starting to feel like spring around here.

So my favorite thing to do post run is to grab an ice cold smoothie. Not only are they so simple to make, if you have a personal size/travel blender you can literally take it and go. It’s a win win situation.

Here are some of my favorite smoothies for running recovery!

1. Spinach, almond milk, & banana. I like to call it the ‘green goddess’. Typically I will use Almond Breeze unsweetened vanilla for this one. Plus…according to Runner’s Word spinach boosts strength & running performance so I am all in.

2. The ‘runner’s pina colada’. This one is great, preferably if you can sip it while you kick back in a hammock. Frozen pineapples, coconut milk, bananas & a little bit of vanilla protein. Awesome.

3. Kale and strawberry. Kale is also another great superfood/power leafy green and combined with strawberries it’s perfection.

4. Blueberry pineapple passion. Blueberries are a great antioxidant fix and I love the blend with pineapples, banana and milk of your choice. I prefer this one with coconut almond milk.

What are some of your favorite post workout smoothie concoctions?

Speedwork in Disguise and a Banana Green Protein Smoothie.

7 miles this morning before the cold drizzles of rain came through! Legs I have to say are feeling pretty good since yesterday’s hilly 8 miler. Lately I’ve been enjoying the challenge of hill repeats…getting ready for the 50k course in February which will be mostly rolling hills. Yes, those bad boys are speedwork in disguise…for sure.

I have yet another post workout green power booster for you today! One of the things I love the most about including spinach in my smoothies is that you really don’t even taste it. Plus, spinach is such a great superfood for runners. Who knew?

Screen Shot 2016-01-21 at 10.18.21 AM

Good stuff…I think even former housewife Brandi is convinced.

Here’s what you need for this green concoction.

-2 cups of fresh organic spinach
-1 banana, chopped (freeze if you want your smoothie to be nice and ice cold!)
-1 scoop of protein powder (I always use this vegan protein one)
-1 cup of unsweetened vanilla almond milk

Blend and serve! Preferably after jogging…no, I mean running.

What’s your favorite post workout smoothie lately?

My Favorite Day to Run and a Dandelion Greens Smoothie.

It was a 7 mile morning today, enjoying a little bit of sunrise. I added in a few speedy strides for good measure. It was pretty chilly at 6 am but happy to report we will be up in the 60s today.

Without a doubt Thursday is my favorite day to run…well make that one of my favorites. Saturday also tops the list because that tends to be my long run day. Oh yeah and Thursday is not Thursday anymore, it’s Friday Eve. From here on out.

After the run I did a quick strength circuit you can do anywhere, anytime. Grab some medium to heavy weights and you’re good to go.

Today I’ve also got an awesomely delicious smoothie for your morning power boost. Dandelion greens smoothie. I kind of discovered this concoction by accident.

I was at the store actually looking for kale at Sprouts and they were out of it. Then I spotted these babies out of the corner of my eye. Not gonna lie…the name dandelion actually sounded good to me…like it would taste good in a smoothie. So…I said, what the heck and threw it in my basket.

Dandelion greens actually have a ton of health benefits too! I think I will have to throw it in my weekly rotation.

Here’s what you need…

-2-3 cups of organic dandelion greens (you should be able to find this at a natural foods store)
-1 cup of frozen cherries
-1/2 banana
-1 scoop of vanilla protein powder (optional)
-1 cup of unsweetened coconut almond milk

Blend and serve! Perfect for post workout or busy mornings if you’re a busy bee like myself.

What is your favorite day to run? Favorite post workout smoothie?

Everlast Vegan Protein Review.

Well hello there! Hope you all are having a lovely Tuesday. I was recently contacted by Everlast to review their awesome vegan protein! I don’t know about you but I love having options like this to include in my diet.

Screen Shot 2015-10-13 at 8.51.18 AM

I made a delicious post workout smoothie this morning with frozen bananas, frozen cherries, some Everlast and ice cold water. I actually wanted to throw in a little almond milk but I was out of it so decided to just try it with H2O. Success!

I was surprised by how creamy in texture it was and the flavors really worked together.

Here are a few things you should know about Everlast Vegan Protein in case you are looking for an alternative to whey or you are Vegan/Vegetarian.

-Everlast Vegan Protein is easier to digest over the traditional whey proteins.

-Everlast VP is the ultimate plant-based protein mix delivering a complete BCAA profile using the highest grade blend of pea, rice and hemp proteins to promote lean muscle growth and recovery.

-Everlast VP is lactose, gluten, sugar, hormone, GMO and cholesterol free. Plus, it has the best taste of any vegan protein mix we’ve tasted.

-Everlast VP is the ideal solution to vegan/vegetarian body building and for anyone looking to build lean muscle. Each scoop delivers 22g of protein and is only 110 calories.

For me, this is a great option because as far as protein supplements go, I really like to know what is going on in my drink. You feel me? I am not a fan of chemicals and stuff I can’t pronounce and this takes all of the guesswork out. Fun fact about me…I also used to be lactose intolerant as a child so now as a grownup I’m really cognizant of dairy and I know what it does to my system if I have too much. So, for me the vegan protein option is like icing on the cake.

I think this protein is great in smoothies, provides a smooth consistency/texture and actually takes great even in water. I was surprised by the flavor and the fact that it was not chalky at all.

So if you are considering trying out a new protein I definitely recommend this one! Right now they have an offer going- buy 1 bag of Everlast VP get a free box of FUEL free (includes free shipping). Click here to find out more.

Be sure to use my discount code DANCERNR if you want to shop around the Everlast nutrition site! As you know this company has been around for ages and they are still going strong. Let me know if you find some other products from there that you enjoy!
