Marathon Training, Running, State Fair of Texas, Weekend

2 Weeks, State Fair of Texas and Wknd Recap.

Hello and happy Monday to you! It is kind of cloudy, humid and windy down here in Texas. So I am just leaving this here to motivate myself to rock it out today. Run, check…coffee, check. Going good so far.

Let’s recap the weekend a bit, shall we?

This past Saturday was my 2nd to last long-ish run before the Marine Corps Marathon! 14 miles on deck. 2 weeks out! I’m scaling things back a bit getting ready for 26.2. ISH is about to get real I tell ya. I am equal parts excited and nervous. And also am hoping for some decent running weather for the marathon.

Afterwards I celebrated with some of my Irving Running Club crew. We had lots of folks in our group that totally dominated the Chicago Marathon recently so it called for cupcakes. With ‘Made in IRC’ frosting of course. Good stuff.

Later on that day me and my homegirl Natalie took the DART rail out to the State Fair of Texas! Fireworks, smoked turkey legs and fun were in store. I love taking the rail to the fair because parking out there can be crazy. It’s a nice, stress free way to travel. Plus there’s one real close to my place to I literally just step outside of my door and go.

We walked around, ate some delicious fair food and said hello to Mr. Big Tex.

Nelly also performed at the Chevrolet stage that night…we got to see a bit of it before leaving. He played some serious throwbacks for sure.

Sunday funday runday – I had a run date with my friend Tricia who is training for the BMW Dallas half marathon in December. I am running the full marathon that day as well so I am going to be doing some recovery runs with her while she ramps up her mileage. She had 7 miles on deck for the day. Her first time running 7 miles ever! I was so proud of her for getting it done.

And of course Sunday would not be complete without mimosas…cheers to life.

How was your weekend? Do you have any fall or holiday trips coming up?
Washington D.C. oh so soon! Bring it on.

14 Miles, Sunset Run and Wknd Recap.

How was the weekend? Is it over already…sheesh, goes by so fast. Ah well. On to Monday!

I taught my early bird spin class this morning. We zoned out to this mashup with lots of speedy hill climbs. Good stuff.

Let’s backtrack to the weekend…it was without a doubt a lot of fun. I had a long run on Saturday and scaled back the miles…14 mile recovery run and it felt super good. Kept it around a 9 minute pace and my last mile was my fastest at 8:26. It was super humid though and the heat is not letting up this week. Lows in the 70s and highs in the 90s.

4 weeks til the marathon! And my longest run (23 miles) will be next weekend. Bring it on.

After the run I went to the fair with friends. We went to the State Fair classic college football game— Grambling vs. Prairie View A&M. Even though Grambling won PV had the best halftime show! Any band that plays Nelly’s ‘Hot in Herre’ is alright with me.

We walked around a bit and saw the massive ferris wheel with the sunset in background.

And the new and improved Big Tex. He actually burned down not long ago and they rebuilt him, now he’s stronger than ever.

My weekend ended with a 4 mile Sunday sunset run…and a beautiful glass of red wine. Cheers.

How was your weekend? What did you do?

TGIFriday Faves.

Happiest of Fridays to you! Hope you are enjoying today so far. It’s shaping up to be fun weekend around these parts. The State Fair of Texas opens today! Those of you that are Texans know what’s up. It’s basically the biggest fall event around! Corny dogs, ferris wheels, and cotton candy, oh my.

Big Tex says hello!

I am looking forward to going and me and my friend have tickets to the State Fair Classic game! Prairie View vs. Grambling State. It’s always a good game and I hear the halftime show is off the chain.

So excited. Makes me want to get my popcorn ready.

Let’s get to my faves this week!

Don’t be so judgy. Haha…really, don’t be. Especially with yourself and comparing yourself to others. I’ve always said that’s what I love the best about the running community. We are all on our own journeys in running and in life.

haha…yeah, don’t do that either.

Top five foods to make your skin glow. Yes yes, all about that.

Sweet potato and black bean vegan enchiladas. Definitely trying these out in the near future.

How to increase running mileage safely. I have always been leery of upping my mileage but I think with patience and time it can be done. Bring on more running and along with that…MORE yoga.

-All aztec everything. I am seeing all of these cute aztec sweaters on Pinterest…and I want them all.

What are you up to this weekend? Any fall festivals/carnivals?
