Trader Joe’s Tuesday and a Few Things to Love About Spring Running.

Oh yes, I am bringing back Trader Joe’s Tuesday! I am loving all of the things I’ve been finding there lately. It definitely makes for a yummy way to spice up my meals and snacks during the work week!! Here are a few items in my grocery cart this week.

Cauliflower and broccoli vegetable patties. These are great especially if you heat them up in a pan with a little bit of coconut oil. Actually I think they would be great also with breakfast dishes, kind of like a hash brown alternative with eggs and such. They also have the carrot and peas one which I have not tried yet, but hear they are delicious.

Artichoke and jalapeno dip. This is one thing I absolutely have to have in my cart when I go to TJ’s. It is a greek yogurt dip that is absolutely fantastic with tortilla and/or pita chips and veggies. Perfect for parties or just snacking in general.

Asparagus. Loving their fresh produce lately. This is one of my favorite veggies to roast because it is so dang easy. A little evoo, sea salt and pepper or garlic, pop in the oven, serve with baked chicken. Instant yummy goodness.

Everything But the Bagel Seasoning Blend. This stuff I swear tastes amazing on EVERYTHING and it is a super cheap spice to buy. I’ve put it on meats, veggies, eggs, rice, you name it. No need for anything else. It has all of the deliciousness you need.

Switching gears, back over to running! Yes that would be my favorite topic. Running this week has gone great so far! Plus the weather is super fantastic down in Texas. AND YES…HAPPY SPRING! I know in some parts of the country it does not feel like spring yet. But I shall give you something to look forward to. Here are a few things I love about spring running…

GOOD DAY SUNSHINE. I do love me some dark morning runs but I am also loving lunchtime runs in the sun. Some days you need a break in the monotony and to get some vitamin D.

Pastel colors are back! I love me some bright running clothes…can’t wait to stock up on all of the super bright and colorful tank tops, sports bras and shorts. Great time of year to update the running wardrobe. I have my eyes on a few items from lulu’s spring cotton collection.

Bye bye layers and gloves. I enjoy colder weather runs too but hey now there is no need to worry about ALL OF THE CLOTHING that goes along with it. I can finally retire my running gloves and mittens. Back in the drawer they go.

All of the pretty blooms everywhere. I am obsessed with blooming trees & flowers lately. They are everywhere and making my running that much more blissful. Nice distraction and gives you something to look at.

Recovery Miles and Trader Joe’s Tuesday.

8 recovery miles this morning with some runner friends in the cold foggy weather. The temps in Texas this week will be very up and down! I think this weekend it will be something like 70 degrees Saturday and a high of 30 whatever on Sunday. So yeah, gotta love that.

And yes…Starbucks Christmas blend post early morning run…oh so necessary.

My legs surprisingly are feeling pretty decent even after Sunday’s marathon PR. Like honestly I was expecting to be going down the stairs backwards but I’ve been easing back into runs. Gotta love that muscle memory. I’m thankful for that though because I’ve got a trail ultra in February, a couple of other ‘for fun’ races mixed in, and then Rock n Roll San Diego Marathon in early June. I have some runner girlfriends joining me in San Diego too so super excited about running one of my favorite cities by the beach.

So let’s get straight to Trader Joe’s Tuesday! It has been a while since I’ve done one of these for sure so I thought I’d let you in on some of my favorite TJ’s selections for this week.

Organic quinoa. Love that this stuff is fully cooked so it takes a lot of the prep work out. I can just heat it up and go to town after teaching a class at the gym in the evenings. I love throwing some steamed broccoli and feta in there along with some red pepper flakes for a nice kick.

Artichoke Jalapeno Dip…this stuff, I will warn you is super addictive. It’s made with greek yogurt which lightens things up a bit! Super good with sliced cucumbers or TJ’s organic tortilla chips. And just perfect for holiday parties! Yum.

TJ’s cereal bars. The pumpkin ones especially…I believe these are a seasonal item but they are great right before a run. Grab ‘em and go.

Charles Shaw Nouveau wine…3 buck chuck. Great red table wine and goes perfect with different types of dishes for dinner. It’s nothing fancy but is actually pretty good and smooth. Perfect for chilly nights by the fire.

Early Morning 10k and Trader Joe’s Tuesday.

Early morning 10k miles with my early bird running crew. It’s taper time around here so it was nice to dial it back just a bit.

Yes…mentally tough…I am working on it. Always.

Yesterday after work I cashed in my Groupon and had a little sauna session at King Spa and Sauna in Dallas. This place is pretty awesome…they have a waterpark, lounge chairs, several sauna areas and even a lounge upstairs where you can get facials, massages and pedicures. It’s kind of like Disney World for those who want to max and relax.

I went right after work and spent close to 3 hours in there doing nothing but straight chillin. I tell you what my body feels so awesome and relaxed today. Thank you baby Jesus.

Changing gears a bit…I haven’t done a Trader Joe’s Tuesday in a while I thought I’d share my grocery haul with you for this week! Lots of goodies in the cart.

-Riced cauliflower. Typically I like to make my own but this is awesome because it’s already pre chopped, fresh and ready to go. I like to add chicken sausage, ground turkey and all sorts of stuff to it. Even avocado and make my own version of a Mexi style taco salad.

-Organic fresh basil. This week I plan on making these feta basil turkey burgers so they should be a good deal.

-Speaking of feta…hello feta cheese/greek yogurt spread. You are my favorite.

-Spicy spinach blend. I see lots of yummy fresh salads in my future.

-Brew in the bag Brazilian java. Perfect for a post run a.m. treat. I have yet to try this but I’ll let you know how it goes.

10k and Trader Joe’s Tuesday.

6 miles this morning after getting an amazing amount of sleep. I think I nodded off around 8:30 pm last night! Felt so good to catch some more zzz’s.

Post run yoga session and legs up on the wall. Much needed. I definitely need to do the legs up the wall thing a lot more. This is a great restorative pose to keep help with recovery and circulation.

So today I thought I’d share a few items I purchased on my grocery haul this week. This Trader Joe’s is a bit closer to my job so I love stopping by there on the way home sometimes. It always feels like a fun field trip of sorts. Yes I have an exciting life.

Spaghetti squash. Not sure what my fascination is with squash lately but it’s just an easy staple to have around the house. Plus it’s filling and so darn good for you. Nice alternative to pasta too. I made it with jalapeño chicken sausage last night. Perfection.

Dark sweet cherries. These babies are fantastic in smoothies and actually just as a snack. They remind me of frozen grapes a little bit…nature’s candy.

Chile lime chicken burgers. I have not tried these just yet but am planning on whipping ‘em up this week. Nice little protein boost. I will report back.

Wild arugula…good alternative to spinach…definitely planning on whipping up some lunches with this stuff.

Cut up butternut squash. As I mentioned in this post I love that this takes a lot of the prep work out. Plus hello, butternut squash mac n cheese is the best comfort food out there. Need I say more?

Chipotle salsa. This has such a good kick of zesty spice and a smokey flavor at the end. Great with tortilla chips too. I may have to make some crockpot salsa chicken with this one.

TJ’s wine. Charles Shaw, I love you. The merlot is great but this week I’ll be trying some shriaz on Wine Wednesday after I teach my spin class. We’ll see how it goes.

Shoulder Ripper and a Weird Veggie.

This shoulder ripper workout gave me a run for my money this morning. Repeat the set 3x and then combine it with some cardio like running…or dancing in your living room. Whatever works.

Plank walks, I know you are good for me but…I love to hate you.
After that craziness I busted it out on the treadmill. Seriously was not feeling it after Saturday’s 21 (and I went to bed last night around 8:45 then slept in til 7 am – good ole yummy sleep) but I decided it would be good to shake the legs and get the cobwebs out. 4 miles at an easy 9 minute pace while watching the Kardashians. Don’t judge.

In my lunchbox is a bunch of Trader Joe’s goodies I whipped up. Who knew there was such a thing as Persian cucumbers? Kind of a weird, new to ME veggie but I like them. They are tiny, crispy with just a little bit of sweetness. Just another little TJ’s discovery.

Oh and if you haven’t tried their cookie butter on a toasted english muffin you are seriously missing out on life. That’s all I’m going to say about that.

21 Miles, Feeling Like a Color Change and Pretty Unpredictable…Wknd Recap.

I sometimes look forward to Monday mornings for this very reason…

Well that, and I get to teach a rockin’ cycle class with my clique. It felt good to wake the legs up after a much needed rest day yesterday.
This weekend I got a long run in with the Luke’s crew. We are 3 weeks out from the Dallas Marathon! 21 miler done.

We ran through the lights and saw some holiday décor along the way. Temps were a bit warmer this weekend…highs in the 70s and 80s…and yes we are in November. And yes it was 30 degrees a few days ago. That’s Texas weather for ya…pretty unpredictable. Kinda like me.
It felt good to spike that mileage up though. Legs felt good and strong for most of the way. I was just happy to stay under a 10 minute pace for most of this run. Of course the miles go by much faster when you have fun peeps by your side.

Post run, I went home…got cleaned up and went to visit my hairstylist who I hadn’t seen in a minute. Pretty sure the best way to recover after a long run is to go get pampered and your hair did. Feels so good.

I was feeling like a color change so I went with this burgundy/wine shade for fall. I had been eyeing this color for a while so I’m glad I finally went with it. It’s a semi permanent though so if I get tired of it I can switch it up. But I dig it for now.
Sunday was church and a big grocery haul from Trader Joe’s. Oh and I broke down and bought some cookie butter because they basically never have it when I go there so I was shocked it was even on the shelf. Limit 6 at a time, folks. TJ’s doesn’t play around with rationing out these babies.

I always come out of Trader Joe’s a happier person. I have my sockeye salmon, hummus, tuscan kale and lots more goodies to get me through this week.
