Moving Meditation, Good Eats and Wknd Recap.

I am super excited this week ahead will be a short one. I will be working til Wednesday and then enjoying a lovely few days for the Thanksgiving holiday! Bring on the turkey and dressing.

This morning I had to teach a spin class and then get all cleaned up for picture day at work. It’s fun working behind the scenes in TV…kind of like going into the office to be creative, write and play all day. Well sorta. This week will definitely be crazy hitting some deadlines before a few days off.

Let’s backtrack to the weekend. We had all sorts of weird weather! Starting off with some clouds and rain on Saturday. I wasn’t quite sure that I was even going to get a run in because of the off and on rain but I managed 14 miles. I just kind of kept running until I was over it. It was a good run and I played with speed a bit. Not only was it a good run, it was super peaceful. The leaves were starting to fall all of the trees have finally changed colors. Moving meditation for sure.

After the run I went to my mailbox for the first time in a couple of weeks and got some goodies sent over to me. Thank you, Clif bar people! Lots of fun things to try.

That night I went out with a friend for some good eats in the Bishop Arts District. We discovered a new restaurant out there called Nova! It was like a cute diner and lounge all in one. Hummus, pita bread and cucumber salad for the win.

Sunday I met mama for coffee at The Pearl Cup. By the way…any coffee place that has almond milk lattes is okay with me. And this saying is so true.

Since I did church Saturday and it was such a gorgeous day out Sunday I had to get back out on the roads. 8 miles of sunshine.

Oh and I also got to have a little pho action this weekend. Piping hot pho with tofu…the best.

A little 5 mile shakeout run this morning was just what I needed. I’m feeling good since completing this race although the legs are a bit like jello after jumping over rocks for 13.5 miles. I’m thinking I might have to hit up some yoga soon and stretch some things out.

Hello there! Hope you all had an excellent weekend. Mine went by like a whirlwind and was wall to wall fun. This morning I was up a little too early to teach spin after getting in from California last night. We did some speedy intervals, and a few rolling hills. Love Mondays. That class always gets me goin.

Let’s backtrack to the weekend…Saturday I was off on a jet plane to San Diego with my girl Malaika to run the Rock n Roll San Diego half marathon.

We ventured on over to the expo with about an hour before close and got our swag. So glad we made it.

Later on that evening we had dinner on the patio at Napizza. Wine, salad, and organic chicken pizza on deck.

Sunday morning we were up EARLY for the race. 6:45 am start time. Actually it didn’t FEEL that early to us…since us Texans are 2 hours ahead. So we were fired up and ready to go.

We got to watch the full marathoners take off. Exciting stuff.

I finally got to meet some of my favorite SoCal runners at the half start. Like this lady. Me and Pam have been social media buddies for years. She is the sweetest and pretty dang fast to boot.

The gun went off and we were ready to go. I had heard from a few of the locals about how hilly it was so I just enjoyed the first half as we went up and down inclines. Towards about mile 6-7 the weather started warming up and 75 percent humidity the whole way. It messed with me a little bit mentally since I am NOT a hot/humid weather runner but I just kept telling myself to stay strong and keep pushing. Honestly going into this race…I hadn’t really hardcore trained or anything like that so I didn’t care to PR. Just went there to run and see new sights. I figured I’d fall just behind the 2 hour mark. Even if I ran OVER 2 hours that would have been ok with me. Real laid back just havin fun. And running right along with Dr. Dribble.

The energy and spectators for this race are NONSTOP. Really I didn’t feel like there was a dead moment and I felt so good the whole way. The neighborhoods were beautiful and lots of shade which was helpful. They had jugglers along the course and even folks spraying us with water. Every time another incline came around and I’d see folks stopping and walking I just told myself to keep going. And I did.

I am so happy with that time considering the conditions and those hills. Those California runners, I tell you…are some STRONG folks! I do have to say hills are speedwork in disguise. So good for the legs.

Another one down, folks. Number 18. I think I can make it to 20 half marathons by the end of the year.

Oh, and another thing I love about San Diego…the sunsets. I’m definitely going back.

Killing Me Softly and Running Wild…Wknd Recap.

Happy Monday friends! Hope you had a great weekend. I had an early wake up call to teach my hour long spin class this morning. Back in the saddle with some new cycle shoes.

Let’s back track to the weekend. Friday nights are usually low key for me but I got off a little bit early from work and ventured on over to a friend’s Zumba class. It has been a YEAR since I’ve taken a dance class! I used to teach a similar class (hence my blog name) so I have to say that I really miss it. It was so good to be back on the dance floor with my girl Sharanda. Here’s an old pic of her class…can you find me?

I definitely needed a bit of dance therapy as of late since my personal life has been a little hectic – due to some issues with the whole long distance scenario the boyfriend and I decided recently to end our relationship. You know I never get real personal on here and like to keep things light but since I love ya’ll I figured I’d tell you what’s up. I’m actually doing ok (trust me…it has been a long time coming) but it’s just so good to be around friends and staying active. And busy. 
 
Anywaysssss…Saturday I got some run therapy in. I slept in until about 9 am and then was out for a 12 mile run in the hood. One tough cookie- that’s me.

It felt good to maintain just under a 9 minute pace for this run. Last run over 10 miles before marathon number 10 – Cowtown in 2 weeks. 
 
Later on that night I did Saturday night church and then went out for karaoke and dancing with a good friend. The K Wang is probably my favorite line dance right now. Well that and the Wobble. Never gets old.
 
My go to karaoke song – Killing Me Softly. Every time. This was after about 2 glasses of wine. And a patron shot. Don’t judge.
 
Sunday was a rest day so I met up with my girl Natalie for brunch at Penne Pomodoro. Hello $1 mimosas and bellinis. I had this spinach and goat cheese salad with smoked salmon. Probably my favorite thing to top a salad with is smoked salmon. Hits the spot.

Oh and I also finally made it over to the outlets and cashed in my $50 Nike gift card. I may just rock the turquoise skirt for my marathon. And the ‘Running Wild’ shirt of course.

Morning workout – 5 easy miles on the ‘mill in my apartment gym while I caught up on the news and some celeb gossip. Felt good after Saturday’s run. I certainly think the ice bath and vino therapy helped.

Got my pump on for a little while after…arms, abs, squats. Felt good to lift heavy stuff this morning with all of this running I have been doing.

My girls and I are going to be wearing these matching shorts for the marathon in a few short weeks. We are calling ourselves the ‘Sole Mates’. How cute is that?

I’m subbing a spin class at 6:30 pm tonight if you want to join. It will mostly be me dancing around and singing off the bike while I’m cheering peeps on. They like to laugh at me…I have no shame.

So I’m a little too excited about the Essie fall collection I just bought off of Ebay. 4 colors for less than $15 which was practically a steal. I’m eyeing the shimmery grey one. I’m thinking this may be a project for tonight after I teach class.
