Friday, Fun, Running, yoga

TGIFriday Faves.

Well, hello there! Happy Friday. This morning I got my bend and stretch on with an hour of power yoga at the gym! It felt amazing after a week of running and teaching spin classes.

Haha…yep…I’m definitely not a yoga pro, but I’m working on it!

Anyways…let’s get to my faves this week!

-My Hamilton Beach personal travel size blender. I swear this thing has been such a lifesaver for post run refreshment.

-These heart shaped leaves spotted on my run the other day…yep sometimes you have to stop to capture beauty.

-Checking out a Yelp event at this lovely new mani/pedi spa in Uptown Dallas. Just hanging with my girl Melody.

Weird running habits? Yep…I have a few of them. But we’ll discuss that later.

16 truths for pizza lovers everywhere! Yum! I can dig it.

-This vino. Ya’ll…it’s a must try. Paso Robles, California wine for the win.

On that note…cheers and have a fabulous weekend!!

What are you up to this weekend?
Running a marathon, actually! 26.2 number 14 on Memorial Day. Bring it.

Yoga Retreat, Running and Birthday Weekend Recap.

Hello there and happy Monday! Hope you all had a fantastic weekend. I spent the last few days in East Texas enjoying some yoga and hiking in the piney woods! It was a great time and I almost did not want to leave.

Friday my mama and I took a 2 hour road trip to a little town called Mineola, Texas for a 3 day yoga retreat…Retreat in the Pines! Our cabin is quite gorgeous yes? It was even more beautiful inside.

Screen Shot 2015-04-27 at 8.21.54 AM

We arrived Friday evening and got settled. There was a restorative class in the evening as well as dinner and wine…and we got to meet a few ladies that were also staying in the cabin for that weekend.

Saturday morning I was up early and had a little coffee on the patio. We had some storms come in Friday but thankfully Saturday was a gorgeous day to play in the sunshine.

Screen Shot 2015-04-27 at 7.53.04 AM

There were yoga classes led by an instructor all throughout the day…4 to be exact. An early morning class, 11 am power yoga, a 5:30 outdoor class, and a candlelight session at 8:30 after dinner. I took advantage of all of them. It was so nice to get a good stretch in with the backdrop of nature.

Sunday was my birthday! We got up, 1 more yoga session, had breakfast and checked out of the retreat around 11 am. It was an amazing weekend and a nice way to ring in my 31st birthday. Honestly, I just wanted to give myself the gift of relaxation and this was the perfect way to do it. I feel like it was also a great release of some tension and emotions that I was holding onto…and I was really able to just let go. I think I left with a different mindset and more of a sense of calm.

So…31…here I am. I am ready to take on this year and its challenges. Whatever comes my way this year, I know I’m strong and ready to handle it. This past weekend was definitely confirmation of that.

Screen Shot 2015-04-27 at 8.27.04 AM

I ended this peaceful, tranquil weekend with a 14 mile sunset run around the lake. It was definitely a weekend filled with all of my favorite things.

Hey hey happy Friday! I am headed to East Texas today for a 3 day yoga retreat in the pines!! It should be some much needed rest and relaxation.

Of course…I’ll also be doing a little running too…maybe even some trail running at that!

Let’s get to this week’s faves!

The Expert Guide to Marathon Success…such good tips to keep in your back pocket…including some from yours truly.

-Moondance kombucha….talk about a sip of paradise. Plus it’s local so I’ve gotta show love.

This song…just cuz it’s awesome for running. And spin class.

-Bluebonnets on the run…they do not last long so I enjoy seeing the Texas flower even for a short while.

15 signs you’re in love with running. YES to them all honestly. I told you I am obsessed with lists.

-The fact that I just signed up to run 26.2 in VEGAS baby! Bring on November. I’m ready to go now.

-And this…because this is exactly how I look during the work week vs. the weekend.

What are you up to this weekend? Do you know the name of your state flower?

Fitness, Fun, Running, Spin class, yoga

Tuesday Random Things.

-I went on a post marathon shakeout run this morning…there are tons of Texas bluebonnets popping up in my neighborhood. Love our state flower.

-This week I’m also teaching a ton of spin classes…5 to be exact. I have been loving teaching in the mornings lately.

-Currently obsessed with my weekly shopping trips to Sprouts Farmers Market. Don’t you just love when you know where everything in the store is? It just makes life so much easier.

-My guilty pleasure tv show lately has been the Real Housewives of Atlanta. Claudia Jordan is kind of my favorite.

-I signed up to go on a yoga retreat for my birthday weekend!! To say I’m excited is a little bit of an understatement. Bring on 31 In 3 weeks.

-…and the weekend before that I’ll be running the Divas Half Marathon in Galveston along the beach. Looking forward to the glass of bubbles at the finish line.

-I have been craving pool time more than ever lately. I see lots of this going on in my future.

21 Miles, Restorative Yoga and Wknd Recap.

Hello hello! I got my Monday started right…teaching a power packed early bird spin class. It was fun being back in the saddle and getting back to the grind.

And of course it wouldn’t be Monday with a little bit of iced coffee lovin’.

Let’s backtrack to the weekend! I had a 21 miler on tap. Countdown…3 weeks til my first ultramarathon! 50K I am comin for ya.

After this run I was in need of some serious recovery so I made myself a smoothie with some protein and put on my compression socks.

That night I had a little dinner date so I dressed up and hit the town in a snazzy colorful dress. I try to clean up well.

Sunday I was pretty spent so I slept in and made it back out for another run. 8 easy miles to help loosen things up a bit. Legs were actually feeling good even after the 21 miler and not at all really stiff. I think honestly my body is so used to the mileage…I’ve been running marathons for 6 years but I’m still happy my body is able to adapt and recover so quickly.

I think what also helps is that I have been rocking it in the yoga studio. I went to restorative yoga last night and we did an hour session to the tune of some candlelight. Restorative yoga equals some amazing sleep. You should definitely try it if you have not already.

Or check out this girl’s youtube channel and you can do it right from your living room. She is awesome.

How was your weekend? Did you get some happy running miles in?

Ahh yes…Friday!! Nice to see ya again! I got my day started with a yummy vinyasa yoga flow. So I’m feeling rather lovely at the moment. Namaste.

Let’s get to this week’s faves!

-I’m loving these Luna bars as a post run treat. And hello, they have them in gluten free versions. Which pretty much taste the same and are just as delicious.

-Loved taking the passion profile quiz this week! Which one are you? I’m a thriver.

Best marathon signs from spectators. This one is my favorite.

-As I mentioned yesterday…laughter is the sweetest medicine. Loved this article from Massage Envy.

10 reasons I love being a group fitness instructor. Besides the fact that I just love to rock out on the spin bike and party like there’s no tomorrow. Now all I need is a bike with some crazy lights on it and I’m good to go.

109 random acts of kindness you can start doing today…just because.

Have a fantastic weekend! Go do something fun.

What are you up to this weekend!? Anyone racing or long running it?

Fitness, Fun, Running, Super Bowl, yoga

Morning Yoga, My Favorite Super Bowl Commercial and Wknd Recap.

Hi there! Hope you had one heck of a weekend. This morning I ventured back on over to my favorite yoga studio for a morning vinyasa flow. It was definitely much needed to kick off a busy work week.

Screen Shot 2015-02-02 at 1.35.17 PM

Let’s backtrack to the weekend! First up…Friday night. A little vino by the fire and a fun date night with a hottie.

We also went to see the Wedding Ringer…funny movie by the way with Kevin Hart. Yes, a little corny…but still very funny. I definitely recommend it.

Saturday I slept in a bit then ventured out for 12 miles in the park. Slow, easy miles but got it done. This weekend was a recovery week before a big buildup of mileage next weekend. 1 month and counting til my first ultra marathon 50K race!

That night after church I got a chance to catch up with one of my good runner friends, Ann. Who by the way just killed the Dallas Marathon in December with a sub 4 hour marathon. So awesome. I definitely made some plans to get together with her for a run in the near future.

Sunday morning was another long run…10 miles but what made it super fun was I got to crash the Texas Half. I actually had no idea it was going on but it was cool to kind of run with them and pretend I was in the race.

Sunday night was of course the Super Bowl…did anyone watch? I wasn’t really into it honestly…but I saw a few commercials and have to say this one was my favorite. I am a sucker for cute little doggies.

How was your weekend? Did you participate in any Super Bowl festivities?

Polar Dash, Wild and Weekend Recap.

Hi there! Hope you all had a fabulous weekend and are ready to rock this work week. I’m feeling pretty good and it looks like the weather in Texas is too. Hello, we are in the 70s for the next 3 days? I will take it.

Screen Shot 2015-01-26 at 7.47.22 AM

This morning I taught a spin class and we rocked out to sprints with this jam at the end. Always a crowd pleaser.

Let’s recap the weekend a bit. So…I was extra spontaneous and heard this crazy race was in town, the Polar Dash. On a whim I decided to rock out and do the Super Yeti challenge! Yes, 3 races back to back in one morning. 15 miles, 1500 meters and a 5K. Yep…I went a little nuts. But it was all in good fun.

Screen Shot 2015-01-26 at 8.10.22 AM

First up was the 15 miler! The course took us through 3 loops around the Texas Rangers and Dallas Cowboys stadiums in Arlington, TX. It was nice running a different course too as most of the races around here are held in Dallas. We also got to run through some scenic parks and finished right on the grounds of Six Flags Over Texas.

Screen Shot 2015-01-26 at 8.11.59 AM

It got warm towards the end but I still managed to finish with an 8:57 average pace. Not too bad for racing a new distance! New distance = new PR.

Screen Shot 2015-01-26 at 8.12.53 AM

I also managed to place 3rd in my age group for this race which I was pretty happy about.

The last 2 races (1500 meters and the 5K) were a blur and were on tired legs. But it was fun to keep going and made for an awesome morning. I also got to meet lots of new runners…the gal below was a pacer and she’s also running the Cowtown Ultra 50K in March! (Like myself) She’s already an awesome ultra runner so I got lots of good tips from her.

At the end I got not 1 but 4 medals!! Yep, I do it all for the bling bling.

Screen Shot 2015-01-26 at 8.09.20 AM

After the race I was pretty beat so I took a nap and just rested the legs. Then I went out with my girl Camillia and some friends of ours at Trinity Groves.

Sunday after sleeping in a bit I got up and did a slow and very easy 8 miles out in the park. I couldn’t help but take advantage of the weather…we were in the 60s all weekend long.

Then I had a movie date with mama and we FINALLY saw Wild! It was definitely a great movie. I have not read the book but I really want to…I kind of felt like I could relate to the character and Reese Witherspoon did an amazing job.

I ended the weekend with a little restorative yoga which always puts me in a super mellow state…I can’t even describe to you how much I feel like night and day before and after this class. Always remember to breathe.

How was your weekend? Did you do anything spontaneous or fun?

Friday, Fun, Running, TGIFriday Faves, yoga

TGIFriday Faves.

Welcome to Friday! The arrival of this day kind of has me doing a twirl like this.

I’ve got some fun things up my sleeve so it should be a good weekend.

Let’s get to my faves this week!

-A double espresso break from Redefined Coffee House. Love this place…lots of cozy seats to get your work done while you sip your java.

Awesome tips for cold weather running. I know some of you deal with some serious winter weather so this would surely be helpful.
Adriene’s post run yoga stretches. I did this last night after running/teaching a spin class and I have to tell you my body feels amazing today.
26 things no one tells you about running. Number 1, 5, 7, 8, and definitely 14.
Roasted pumpkin sage soup. I want to make this simply because it’s so pretty in that cutie pie little pumpkin.

-The fact that Vanderpump Rules is back! You have no idea how happy this makes my reality show loving heart.

What are you loving this week? Is there any guilty pleasure show you enjoy watching?

Day in the Life, Running, yoga

8 Miles, Yoga and My Go-To Outfit.

I was loving the peace and solitude of this morning’s run + some yoga. 8 easy miles, enjoying a little breeze even though it was mostly warm. It was definitely a good run though. I needed the quiet time.

Screen Shot 2014-09-30 at 1.37.06 PM

Afterwards I did some planks and hip openers in my living room. If you’re busy busy on the go I definitely recommend you try this out. It was a nice cleanse to get my day going especially after a good run..and my body definitely needed it. Sometimes I forget how much I love the challenge of yoga any how happy it makes my body (and mind) feel.

I’m a little strapped for time but I read a devotional that really encouraged me…let love be your ‘go-to outfit’ today.

When’s the last time you’ve done yoga?
