My weekend was filled with the things I love the most…racing, parties, laughing, food, getting a MASSAGE, and some gift wrapping! I finally have all of my gifts wrapped and under the Christmas tree! That’s right, no more shopping for me! Boo-yah!
So…this weekend I ran the Jog’r Egg Nog’r 15K. This is my favorite holiday race, and my 2nd year running it. I had a coaches orientation to go to that morning for the Luke’s Locker spring training, so I made an appearance to that, and then scooted out and went to the 15K at White Rock Lake.
I got there in good time, got a good parking spot, and went to grab my race number and tech t-shirt. I really liked the shirts this year, especially since last year they did not offer tech shirts, I thought this was a nice upgrade.
It was chilly on Saturday, but really great racing weather. That’s the one thing I do love about living in Texas, very mild winters make for a nice running experience. The temps were in the 40s/50s that morning so just perfect. I didn’t wear my Garmin watch, and not on purpose, mostly due to the fact that since the Marine Corps Marathon, my Garmin charger has been totally M.I.A.! Bummer! It is looking like I will have to go get a new one. Anyway, running watchless lately has been nice, and my running has not suffered one bit. Chelsea 1, Garmin 0. Thankyouverymuch.
The course was very hilly, and I do not remember it being as hilly last year. But I pushed through. I had my ipod so I was blasting my music and just shuffling along. Running by the lake was beautiful as always. There were lots of people out that morning just running for leisure and with their bikes. So I just tried to relax in my 8 minute mile pace and enjoy the ride.
The last stretch was mostly downhill which was nice. I was definitely ready for this race to be over by about mile 7. So I ignored my thoughts and picked up the pace a bit. The LMFAO song “I’m sexy and I know it” came on. I stepped it up a bit and kicked up my cadence. Put the song on repeat about 3 times. Thanks LMFAO…you got me through the end of the race. I hit the finish…not a PR for me (I finished 1:13 last year, so a couple of minutes off) but I still managed to get 3rd place in my age division. I was happy with that.
I had some long awaited spiked egg nog at the finish. Well deserved, if I do say so myself.
I stalled a little bit longer, found my mama who was waiting for me and got my award, a coffee mug. Will definitely be put to good use.
After the race I met up with my girl Natalie and made some Christmas cookies for my potluck at work this week. We made some thumbprint cookies with candy cane flavored Hershey’s kisses. They were yummy!
Later that night the BF and I went to my work Christmas party. They had catered food and I got a little Christmas bonus cash. It was a good time for all.
Some friends of ours were also having a Christmas dinner at their house in Frisco so we made the trek over there after the work party…we had fun talking and laughing with them and enjoying the evening.
Hope you all have a great week…my work week will be short, and I’m off Friday so I’m HAPPY! Jingle Bell 5K run is this Wednesday so…more on that later!
